Anyone else own the PS3 and dont find much of a difference btween BluRay and DVDs?

Imagewise they aren that far apart from what I can tell, but yeah sound is different.

I have a Pioneer 43" plasma 1080i (no P when I bought it) so I thought I'd see a big image difference.

there are a number of possible issues that could cause that...depending on how u have your PS3 set up...in some cases, the PS3 might downscale the movie to 540p and then upscale it back to 1080i...

what's your configuration..and do u have the latest firmware?

hard to tell as im not in USA at the moment but I believe I had it set to 1080i

About the firmware, yeah I saw the movie with the 1rst release w/o updating it... it has gone thru 5 updates at least so ill re-check it when I have the chance.

I only saw that tallaheda nights or something the one that came free w/ps3

More bad news for HD DVD, Blockbuster, one of the largest US Rental Outlets chooses Blu-Ray over HD DVD for in store rentals. Online will still have both. Apparently content exclusives wins out over price according to Blockbuster execs:

Actually Planet Earth and The Departed had sold well on both platforms. I think if I recalled reading that The Departed also surpassed 100k copies sold.

About disc problems for HD DVDs, it looks like Blu-Rays seems to have production problems as well:

Although it is only on a few titles, or maybe it is only only limited, but this isn't good for PR either.

Haha, I continue to defend because it is pushing Blu-Ray to go cheaper. I don't have to pick a side, my wallet will do the talking. :D

Technically I have already given in since I am committed to buying a PS3 as soon as they get Rumble back in and get some games out like MGS4 and GT5.

But I have no problem using the PS3 as my only game machine and another player for my HD disc, personally I preferred it that way.

Who cares if Blu-Ray drives are getting cheaper... they are still lacking in the number of movies on disc at the moment, and BD movies are freking $30. But I guess that's just inflation..

With that said, I'm still waiting for a cheap BD writer for my new desktop ;)

Yeah that's true, although I was one of the kids who were buying 10-packs of CD-R's for 20 bucks back in the 6th grade ;)

Keep in mind Blockbuster is a hair away from going bankrupt... Sony must have paid them big bucks to go BlueRay exclusively..

I have a feeling this will actually end up killing Blockbuster off for good.
