Ah thanks. Speed reported it was an oil fire (or so my memory says haha).

Commentator was wrong obviously...

Let's see what tomorrow brings, curious how the Michelins will hold on the long stints.

Yea, I was just clarifying as to why I said oil fire earlier in the thread.

Since you act like any other 5 year old, probably not.

schumi with the fastest lap of the race, a 1:17.111 i believe; and massa just couldn't keep up at his consistancy mid-race; and fell wayside to Alonso... although, if Massa were to push the engine... perhaps it would've been possible to be right on his back, or perhaps pass?
after Massa's final pit stop, he closed in to 5.7 seconds behind Alonso...

anyway

I thought it was a pretty good race. Massa working to keep Alonso at bay in the first stint, seeing how Michael's 3 stop would play out to Alonso's 2, watching Pedro try to work his way through the field, Kimi nearly nicking Alonso for 2nd place before having to come in for what looked to be an unscheduled stop due to a fuel delivery error on the previous stop, seeing that Midland get the nose pointed a the sky haha, and just watching Michael work that 248F1 to the bone and squeezing an incredible amount of pace out of it.

As far as this season goes, it was one of the better races IMO.

Oh yea, and how the Japanese powers have shifted... Honda qualifying down in the ass end of the field, losing both cars in the race, while Toyota qualifies well and ends up with a 4th place finish, and a car that was fighting for the podium before having to retire.

TopGearNL 07-16-2006 10:28 AM

Nice race for me. Maybe a bit more action would have done it but still.

Too bad Kimi had to come in and couldn't get in front of Alonso!

Massa did a good job for Ferrari, and Schumacher well, what is there to say :P

The race for the World Champion is really starting now!!!

nickthaskater 07-16-2006 10:33 AM

Haha some interesting numbers on Schu as of this race...

88 victories: 4 victories away from the combined number of wins of Prost and Senna
150 podiums: just... wow haha
8 wins on a single circuit: more wins than most drivers have in their whole career, he has on one circuit...

Oh, and the trophy was shaped like an 8, nice coincidence haha. France must have some talented psychics at work :P

TopGearNL 07-16-2006 10:40 AM

/\/\those are some impressive numbers

I like the idea that one day our kids or grandkids will ask us: '' Who was schumacher, and was he really that good''

nickthaskater 07-16-2006 10:46 AM

One other, is that he's got better than a 60% average (61.47%) in podium finishes to race starts... When you look at the fact that he's started over 240 grand prix, to keep an average of finishing in the top-3 that high is extremely impressive.

And if you look at his wins, that's at 36% haha. Jeez...

TopGearNL 07-16-2006 10:48 AM

/\/\ might be the most impressive of them all, that means that is doesn't always is because of the car, he also won when he was in an other car.

nickthaskater 07-16-2006 11:03 AM

Well another thing you could look at to determine car & driver contribution, would be the success of Schumacher's teammates compared to him in the same cars. None of them have been able even remotely share in his success.
