I got my JW present today!

Well, it's Jabba Claus' day for me!!

I have nothing else to say beside THANKS JABBA!!!!

In case you missed this discussion, it started here : http://www.motorworld.net/forum/show...=319430#319430

And well, the UPS guy was at my door this morning with this...

http://img57.exs.cx/img57/6286/dvd1cd.jpg

A superb present! Perfect for me since I hate to fiddle inside the PC case (this one is external) and since I needed it but there was always something stealing the top spot in the "to buy" list! Now it is already plugged in, it burns perfect with no problem at all and I am VERY happy!!

Once more, thanks a lot! I am a bit embarassed but overhelmed by happiness :D

Schwalbe 12-20-2004 03:19 PM

Santa Claus is coming to town ! :D

Cool TT! You received a beautiful useful gift from Jabba Claus.

Jabba 12-20-2004 03:20 PM

Amazing how it was only in my hands on Friday and now it has arrived at its new home in Switzerland.....

Damn just check out that capacity of the dual layer capability and imagine how many divx episodes of top gear that you can put on a single disc now.

You really need to get a USB 2 card now to take advantage of the extra speed.

Glad you liked your pressie anyway.....

db350ztrack 12-20-2004 03:24 PM

ZfrkS62 12-20-2004 10:41 PM

antonioledesma 12-20-2004 11:19 PM

Santa Jabba attacks!!

great gift TT, now you'll leave behind that fobia of losing those cd's (any accident, if they break into pieces, they are burnt by the sun, a little kid grabs them and fills them up with syrup, candy, etc), you'll put in a safebox the new dvd's

Chaos in 1983! 12-21-2004 12:14 AM

Awesome!!!...Jabba Clause strikes again!!!...I'm sure TT will put good use to it... :D

nthfinity 12-21-2004 12:42 AM

excellent gift! really the best way to save some phisical room :-D. i just got a dual layer burner myself today... but i still havent tested its massive storage capacity yet.

possessed_beaver 12-21-2004 01:20 AM

Exelent gift, i was wondering what he sent you that weighs 4kg..

awsome gift i must say!

Pimp Racer 12-21-2004 01:33 AM

Oh dude you are so lucky! I want one of them! Congrats man!

666fast 12-21-2004 01:47 AM

:D

Congrats TT, thats incredible! Jabba, what can I say, you are simply too generous! LOL

It's amazing what kind of community we have here, I've been a member on many forums and some of them for a number of years, but I've never seen somethign like this be done! JW rocks indeed!

TT, don't worry about being stingy with the blank DVD's. I did that when I first started using them, I wouldn't burn a DVD unless I was going to completely fill it up! LOL Now the discs are cheap enough that I don't care.
Imagine how much pron you can squeeze onto a dual layer DVD!!!

Daggernite 12-21-2004 02:03 AM

Thats really cool of Jabba to get you a gift, hope you like it. Also by coincidence I was looking at the exzact same dvd rewriter yesterday planning to purchase it today, so any comments would be great.
Also bought a new DVD recorder for the TV downstairs so I can get topgear and other programs dvd quality. So seems we are all entering the DVD era together :P

dingo 12-21-2004 05:55 AM

Nice work Jabba.....and congrats TT, you richly deserve it for all the work you put into this place. :D
BTW, my b-day is in April and I don't have a DVD burner yet.....just a quick hint.

TT 12-21-2004 07:02 AM

LOL, why everybody is saying I can finally store lot of porn!! :D :D I ONLY download car videos from the net :P

BTW, the best thing about this present is that I really didn't see it coming :D (at least untill Jabba had to ask confirmation for my addy LOL) :)

topgeartom 12-21-2004 12:56 PM

The big man never ceases to amaze!

Well done TT, you deserve every little bit of that burner!!

stradale 12-21-2004 01:04 PM

Very very nice gift, Jabba! I'm sure TT will enjoy it. "Burn, motherfucker. Burn."

Like I said before, you deserve it, TT!

Wutputt 12-21-2004 02:21 PM

Wow, a Dual Layer DVD burner! I even didn't know they already existed. I'm apparently way behind on the new hot PC stuff :)

Congrats, TT. You'll certainly enjoy your Santa Jabba present a lot. Know you can copy DVD's without the need to shrink/compress the movie and deleting the extra's. What a gift!!!

Hehe, I can admit I download some porn every now and then, but as for DVDs, I'd rather buy originals as I always did :D

fishfreek 12-21-2004 08:54 PM

Thats awsome. No more complants about no disk space from you allowed.

TT 12-21-2004 09:11 PM

I just discovered it takes around 60 minutes to burn a full 4.7 GB DVD at 2.4x (didn't want to use the full speed (4x).. kinda different from the 7 minutes for a CDR :D

fishfreek 12-21-2004 09:18 PM

Ya. But still thats a load of data on that disk. I remember when HD's that where 4gig where BIG... haha

Yep but then a full CD doesnt hold 4.7 GB and the full speed of that writer is X 16 so it should burn a full 4.7 GB disc in under 10 mintues I think...and that would make your CD burner seem very very slow indeed if that only manages 700 MB in 7 minutes.

TT 12-21-2004 09:38 PM

Sure, but I still prefer to burn slower just to be sure it will be burned better ;) anyway well, the PC was created for such stuff, would be pointless if everything would take just a millisecond :P

Jabba 12-21-2004 09:41 PM

In fact I am still trying to find out how fast x 16 would burn a full disc...it could be under 5 mins !!! that is if you could get X16 media cheap enough that is.

Jabba 12-21-2004 09:45 PM

This is what I was looking for :

Single Layer(4.7GB) write speeds
1x (CLV) = about 58 minutes
2x (CLV) = about 29 minutes
2.4x (CLV) = about 24 minutes
4x (CLV) = about 14.5 minutes
6x (CLV/ZCLV) = about 10-12 minutes
8x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 8-10 minutes
12x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 6.5-7.5 minutes
16x (CAV/ZCLV) = about 6-7 minutes

Dual/Double Layer(8.5GB) write speeds
1x CLV = about 105 minutes
2.4x CLV = about 44 minutes
4x CLV = about 27 minutes

TT 12-22-2004 05:14 AM

Actually at 2.4x it took me more than 60 minutes to burn around 4.2 GB I think :?:

MadMax 12-22-2004 05:57 AM

thats probably because you are stuck with usb1.0 controller vy the sounds of it TT ;)

usb 1.0 = 1.5mb/s
usb 1.1 = 12mb/s
usb 2.0 = 480mb/s

TT 12-22-2004 06:04 AM

LOL yes that's it :D and no, I don't need faster speed, so I won't buy a damn USB 2.0 card and open the PC case once more :D

bmwmpower 12-22-2004 07:06 AM

i would buy nonexternal DVD RW - LG 4160 - price about 70 EURO here

DVD-R/-RW-/ROM 16x max., DVD-RAM 5x, DVD-Video (CSS)/DVD+R/+RW 8x max., CD-R/-RW/-ROM/ CD-DA (DAE) 40x max. Zápis DVD-R/DVD+R 16x, DVD-RW 6x, DVD-RAM 3x, DVD+R Double Layer 4x, CD-R 40x, CD-RW 24x

johnhobbs 12-22-2004 08:16 AM

I think you missed the point of this topic

fishfreek 12-22-2004 09:17 AM

Clearly.
