No. You want it to blow up at the line in case this is a new engine. If he crosses the line, that means a 10 spot grid penalty for the next and final race

Remember Jenson's engine blew up 500 feet from him taking 2nd place a few races back and he pulled off 20 feet before the line to avoid that situation.

i don't think it'll matter though. He can't handle the pressure. Last year he knew Michael was a sitting duck and Kimi would undoubtedly retire with some mechanical failure so he had nothing to worry about. This year though, he actually has to back up his title, and now that Ferrari is back in their rhythm, Alonso is having a hard time proving that he earned it.

Schu blitzes final practice
Saturday, 07, October, 2006, 04:37

Michael Schumacher threw down the gauntlet to his title rival Fernando Alonso by dominating the final practice session before qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.

The seven-time champion, who has ratcheted up the pressure on Alonso in recent weeks by erasing his 25-point lead, simply blitzed the field on his new-tyre run at the end of the hour.

He ended up a whopping 1.2 seconds clear of his nearest competitor – his brother Ralf’s Toyota – and 1.9s faster than Alonso.

With Friday’s rain having given way to clear blue skies, the session provided the first true picture of dry-weather pace of the weekend so far – and it made uncomfortable reading for Alonso and Renault.

The Bridgestone tyres on Schumacher’s Ferrari seemed to offer more grip on the ‘green’ track surface.

The German’s car also looked more stable than the Renaults in the gusty conditions that made Suzuka’s fast, sweeping corners an even trickier proposition than usual.

Perhaps most significantly for qualifying, his meteoric final flier suggested that Bridgestone may have the edge on Michelin here in terms of first-lap performance – critical at a circuit where the drop-off from the first to second laps on new rubber can be as much as 1.5s.

Ralf Schumacher’s speed indicated that Toyota may have something up its sleeve for qualifying, and it would be no surprise to see the Japanese manufacturer opt for a light fuel load to upstage arch-rival Honda at the latter’s own track.

But Jenson Button was hard on Schumacher’s heels in third place ahead of the Renault duo, both of whom made several set-up changes to their cars throughout the session but never quite found the sweet spot.

Fisichella was struggling badly prior to his final run but vaulted up to fourth on the charts with a car that he reported felt more consistent than before, while Alonso complained of understeer and poor traction without betraying the slightest hint of panic.

Nick Heidfeld was sixth fastest for BMW, three places ahead of team-mate Robert Kubica.

Splitting the pair were Nico Rosberg, a strong seventh for Williams, and McLaren standard-bearer Kimi Raikkonen, with Felipe Massa rounding out the top 10 in the second Ferrari.

Rubens Barrichello (Honda) and Jarno Trulli (Toyota) languished in 18th and 20th places, a long way off their respective team-mates, while Sakon Yamamoto relegated his Super Aguri team-mate Takuma Sato to the bottom of the timesheets.

Impressively, the entire field was covered by just four seconds around the demanding 3.6-mile circuit.

ZfrkS62 10-07-2006 12:05 AM

just set both qualifying and the race to record.

Can't wait to see Alonso get pwned again :D

Mattk 10-07-2006 12:52 AM

Again, Ferrari are looking very strong. They have all the momentum. Alonso must be beaten! I can't stand the guy winning.

ferrari row 1
toyota row 2
renault row 3
honda row 4

can't wait to see some team on team contact in the first coners
massa prob. will yeild to schumi.

ZfrkS62 10-07-2006 02:36 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

Alonso has to be PISSED that he and his teammate got pushed to row 3 by Toyotas

I don't think the Toyotas will last long against the lightning starts of the Renaults, but i am hoping that Ralf wants his brother to get title number 8 and gets in Alonso's way for at least the first couple of laps.

Should it rain overnight, depending on how close to race time it ends, we could see China play out again but a bit earlier. Now this could be a bad thing because Renault are not going to make the same mistake twice with Fuckface's tires. And he was gaining pretty rapidly on Mikey near the end of the race last week. BUT...I am thinking that the weather is going to play to Bridgestone's advantage here.

IIRC Bridgestone has always done well at this track which is what Ferrari needs to get a small gap opened on their rivals.

I don't think we're going to see Kimi go very far tomorrow. From what i saw, there was some blueish smoke, albeit very thin, coming from his engine during Q2. And it was noted that his engine note seemed a bit rough as he came around on the next lap. Wether this is the case i don't know. But seeing as how Kimi is out of the driver's championship and Mercedes is out of the Constructor's run, I say they should just swap engines, put Kimi on a 1 stop strategy and see if he can come back from the back of the grid, if not pitlane, and shake things up a bit.

If they do this and he stays true to his Flying Finn roots, Alonso should have a rearview full of a pewter car and a visor specked with a pair of Scarlet cars...if not his own teammate's as well by the last 1/4 of the race

Now, on to why Scott Speed is better than Alonso:

HIS FUCKING ATTITUDE!!!!

What would Alonso have said if Button had held him up and caused him to get bumped from Q2? (this would of course be after alot of angry gestures from 10 lengths back)

"Button got in my way and wouldn't let me by even though i was on my flying lap and he wasn't. Of course the FIA is not going to do anything about it because they want Ferrari to have as little challenge as possible so that they can win the championship."

Whereas Scott's comments were:

"We didn't expect to catch up to Button as fast as we did and in sector 2 i had a tough time getting around him. Of course that compromised my time but that's how it goes. It's an unfortunate circumstance but these things happen."

If this kid can stay upbeat about being 19th of 22 on the grid, after a pretty good run at Shanghai, then i say the FIA should require Fernando take some attitude adjustment courses from Speed.

Yeah, he may not be the fastest driver, even as rookies go, but he's at least a sportsman about what happens on the track. A bad result for him isn't followed by a bunch of pissing and moaning. There are a bunch of drivers with better attitudes than Alonso too so don't think i'm just trying to talk up Speed. DC for instance has always had a fairly positive attitude, and even though he's only won a handful of races in his career he's still better than Alonso.

5vz-fe 10-07-2006 05:18 AM

Well, if the sun continues to shine, I really can't see the bridgestone shod Ferrari losing.

Wow.....  Stunning lap, the ups and downs......full throttle on 130R... is just amazing.

One thing very obvious is that Schumi's lap is clearly more smoothly than others

That's a good attitude.

Alonso down in 5th. Ha! He'll have a mountain to climb if he wants to lead the championship again.

nejcdolinsek 10-07-2006 08:27 AM

 :o

AWESOME find... thanks!

Massa blockin Alonso...

Flasshole says:
"Massa is this kind of guy," Briatore told ITV reporters at Suzuka. "He is a kid. He is a little kid. Little in every sense."
"We will talk with Charlie Whiting about this, this is perfect. Today we will tell Charlie, but nothing will happen. We already know what the answer will be."
"Fernando was complaining on the radio," he added. "If you are fighting with McLaren it is fine, but if you fight with these guys [Ferrari] it is impossible."

Well if he was blocking him, Alonso wasn't in his fast lap and thats the one that counts...

5vz-fe 10-07-2006 01:13 PM

It's not the first time we heard the 2 moans becoz of bad results......I think the race will shut them up tomorrow

saadie 10-07-2006 01:26 PM

What? You were driving behind Massa? Massa is good driver. He probably won't ever be champion, but he's a solid performer.

saadie 10-07-2006 10:08 PM

lol nahh it was someone else ..
hes a solid performer .. lol sureee

edit ::

weee 1 hour 20 mins till alonso gets owned ...

i was just thinking ..... this is turning out to be a interesting situation for schumi like in 93 and 97 ..... what if alonso somehow catches up to him ....

we'll see a bang if you ask me

yeah, but after the 1st pit rotation, mikey got out with 2 more laps of fuel, 2 laps later than Alonso did. So Fuckface has to make his second stop before michael. We're looking for 14 laps to go by the time michael has to pit again, which means a splash and dash for a blistering final stint.
