Germany World cup 2006

It is strange that none of the JW's members that like and looove football (not soccer :P) haven't posted something more about the World Cup

So, until now only one result that was a real surprise, Ecuador 2-0 Poland :? That result made a lot of ppl loose some money... like me!
the game was entertaining while I was eating.

Germany had some troubles with Costa Rica, but then CR was easy as a pie. Not a bad game, but it could get better.

sweden vs Trinidad & Tobago, didn't see it all the 90 minutes, but I was bored the whole 15 minutes I saw.

right now Argentina is winning 2-0 vs Cote d'Ivoir in a really entertaining game. Those "ches" sure look to be at the top 6 in this world cup.

I'm really expecting to see tomorrow's game: Netherlands vs Serbia& Montenegro :D Go NL!!!

and... Mexico, I hope they win against Iran, but it won't be an easy game :|

So... how do you see France and Spain? countries which have dissapointed a LOT.

any more comments?
no? then I'll postwhore here

DeMoN 06-10-2006 03:51 PM

dont you know that gambling is illegal?

gucom 06-10-2006 03:54 PM

thx for the support for NL 8) :) and T&T totally ROCKED :D i loved it, their (fans' )response when the game ended 0-0 was awesome, and the swede's response was LOL  :P
i think the netherlands should be able to beat serbia montenegro (BTW, would this be the first time a no longer existing state is represented in the world championship?? :P ), but i dont see NL getting further than the quarter / semi finals... i wouldnt mind seeing brazil win :) (OR T&T ofcourse :P )

SFDMALEX 06-10-2006 03:59 PM

I havent posted anything since JW seems to be low in sports fans.

The few sports threads get very little responce here :(

Pfoh, with Cisse hurt during the match vs China (he won't be able to play for the next 5 months) and some "old" players (world champions in 98 but hell, that was 8 years ago  ) ... seeing them in the second round would already be a nice achievement compared to the last disaster in 2002 :bah:

The Netherlands have always had a nice team but never made it to the final since 1978; who knows ...

gucom 06-10-2006 04:35 PM

lol we didnt even make it to the championship last time round :)

NL was my choice when I saw Marco Van Basten, Gulliut, etc etc play. That was a great NL team. Because countries where our teams will never reach the finals, have a favorite, you imagine Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France and other couple big teams, being the favorites of lots and lots of ppl

also it's funny to see S&M play when that country no longer exists with that name  but it is a dangerous team. All those balcanic countries can win over any european country and then loose against mediocre team

And with T&T it was a big surprise. I've just seen the match's resume and the red card... wasn't :? Leo Benhakker has really worked a lot with that poor guys,

I don't see France at semi, the base team is getting old. Zidane hasn't been in the required rythm in the last year. The rest of the team isn't the best in the last years

Also, Argentina has won 2-1 against Ivory Coast. good game, but again those hateful argentinian tactics appeared and in the first game :|

DeMoN 06-10-2006 05:26 PM

My guess, ppl here are more conserned to see F1 than FIFA lol. At least I am.

DeMoN 06-11-2006 03:44 AM

Maybe this will spice things up...

gucom 06-11-2006 04:01 AM

DUDE DEMON!! WOW im gonna get me a ticket there just in case they win the world cup, i wanna see those girls go mad :D :D :D

DeMoN 06-11-2006 04:14 AM

^ if they go to the beaches like that, imagine under alcohol! (Ive gone to Brazil and damn they tan porno!)

antonioledesma 06-11-2006 11:30 AM

so... what do you think about these first matches?
i liked NL's game strategy, but at the second time they only wanted to have the ball. S&M started to attack and looked dangerous.

in a few minutes mexico vs iran... and I have my doubts with mexico. my guess... 1-0 mexico, or even a draw :|

DeMoN 06-11-2006 11:40 AM

The only one I started to see was the one that ended 0 - 0 so that took away my curiosity for the rest of the day lol.

gucom 06-11-2006 05:19 PM

im glad the netherlands won :) but it wasnt a great match to watch... mexico won 3-1 i believe so bultraco worried for nothing :) and thx everybody :D for liking the Netherlands 8)

davide 06-11-2006 05:44 PM

Portugal with a win over Angola, which is no suprise but only 1-0. From a big nation like Protugal, they should have run over Angola..

Tomorrow, USA vs Czech rep. Of course, USA will get their asses handed to them on a silver plate... or what do you say RC? ;) ;)

DeMoN 06-11-2006 06:08 PM

^ many american ppl are getting interviewed, and they seem to be so confident that you'd think they're 100% sure of USA taking the cup.

antonioledesma 06-11-2006 07:34 PM

mexico 3-1 iran. of course the mex team played like crap. I can't believe how those players that have an annual salary over 500,000 USD can't win easily over a bunch of amateurs and 4 real players  Now only very bad luck can prevent mexico to advance to the next round.... I wish

portugal didn't had a picnic with angola.

for tomorrow the best dish is brazil-croatia. My guess is a 3-2 brazil wins. It will be a great game, fav players!!
the other 2 games are italy-ghana (my guess is 2-0), and usa-czech.. could be a draw or czech wins 1-0

SFDMALEX 06-11-2006 07:43 PM

Well all I cared about today was for the dutch to loose.

You see, I hate the dutch now, because of the UEFA under 21 final.

SCREW THE DUTCH!

antonioledesma 06-11-2006 08:09 PM

and.. Alex, gonna put "something" with Dani, Bultaco, dropot or any other spanish member? (of course I know those kinda games of bets aren't allowed)

Ukraine-Spain, 14 june

SFDMALEX 06-11-2006 08:29 PM

Hey my very good friend is a Spaniard!

Me and him are going to watch the game live at his shop(he runs a computer store) wednesday.

I think its going to be a good game.

Ukraine is a very talented team.

Spain on paper is one of the best teams out there, no arguments, but Spain doesnt play so well internationaly.

I think its going to the game to watch.

:)

And I dont bet with friends ;)

I'll bet you a coffee or lunch, if you ever make it here ;) :)

antonioledesma 06-11-2006 08:39 PM

and I don't bet with drug-lords

in the paper, Spain has a more balanced team than Ukraine, but IMO a draw will be that match's result

cooperluke 06-12-2006 05:00 AM

Well, Portugal won Angola, but only 1-0.

By the start of the game, Portugal could have done the 2-0, but on the 2nd half they just didn't played nothing special...

But.. as Figo said... the important is the result. Let's hope they keep winning and, if possible, play nice football also. :D

Mattk 06-12-2006 11:06 AM

Australia just beat Japan 3-1, which is the signal for mad people to drive around hooting their horns, screaming, whistling, and playing Ricky Martin songs at high volume.

Good on them, what a great win!!

Down 1-0 and then scoring 3 goals in the last 8-9mins....stunning!

Darkel 06-13-2006 02:17 PM

Allright ... France-Switzerland 0-0
Not the big clash against Switzerland we were expecting, a lot of missed opportunities on both sides but nothing happened ... as usual :?

Toronto 06-13-2006 03:38 PM

^^^ happened 2-3 times in qual (draw), so it is a kinda a given it would happen again

gucom 06-13-2006 05:02 PM

well...1-0, i expected alot better from brazil...kinda disappointing tbh...

SFDMALEX 06-13-2006 05:54 PM

dammit, I was going for Croatia and they really could have tied.

They had the second half.

Oh well...

My teams are:

Ukraine
Croatia
Czech

Gotta go for the Slavs.

Not bad so far. Czechs got the Yanks, Croatia did ok vs the best team in the world and Ukraine has the chance to beat Spain tomorrow.

Cant wait for tomorros game.

gucom 06-13-2006 06:41 PM

uhm i guess im supporting the netherlands, brazil, T&T, and uhm...australia for having a dutch coach :) also i dont mind seeing czech win :)

Exactly my thought and choice, except you forgot South-Korea that also has a Dutch coach, Dick Advocaat and won with 2-1 :)

For sure, you forgot Serbia, Croatia had great chances in the beginning of the 2nd half but then they just looked tired by the end, babic had good opportunities. Tommorow will be a good day, hopefully poland loses to!!

haha yes

I'm cool with Poland politicaly but as far as football goes I cant stand em.
I dunno why.....they just seem to spoil all the parties :P

Should be a good day.

Toronto 06-14-2006 05:06 AM

this world cup is gonna be a re-peat of WWII.
first germany will beat poland (next game), then france, then england, then loose to... who will play the russians... Czech i guess :P

davide 06-14-2006 05:49 AM

Croatia was almost worthy a goal there, they had some really good chanches!
Brazil did play okay, but was expecting more.. a lot of passes that didn't go through, mess ups in def. zone and stuff like that..

1-0, Brazil was really happy with that result.

Very few goals between the "top teams"...

gangajas 06-14-2006 10:53 AM

Spain has won 4-0. Great match!

SFDMALEX 06-14-2006 03:58 PM

embarrassing game, the team wasnt there, it was difficult to watch....

Good game for Spain.

Fleischmann 06-14-2006 05:00 PM

Poland lost 1:0 to Germany, but not without a proper fight. Poland used a lot of strength in the first half so they were exhasuted in the second, but even so Jelen could easily outrun Odonkor, a player known for being the fastest in the Bundesliga. Too bad, the goal was scored in the 92nd minute :(

I have to say after seeing Ukraine loose that bad today I was rooting for Poland.

That second yellow/red was bullshit call though.

Brining me to this point.

THE REFFING IN THIS TOURNAMENT IS CRAP!

WTF have they turned football into?

It's like watching some sissy Americans in an NBA game, they scream foul on anything.

Way to many yellow card this tournament, way too many bullshit calls.

THe refs really piss me off. I havent seen one game yet where the reffing was fair.

Bullshit calls all around.

Fleischmann 06-14-2006 05:15 PM

^^^ I agree, the refereeing is poor all round in this edition. There have been a few very controversial decisions which made huge impacts on the results of the matches. I hope the electronic decision taking system will be enforced very soon, bad refereeing takes the fun out of the sport :(

the refereeing is decent nothin too controversial maybe a harsh decision here and there nothin major though
and that "electronic decision taking system" has no place in football it will take some of the character out of the game!
some of the games' most rememberable moments are such because of an error some referee made for example the maradona "hand of god" incident it's part of the game - life ain't always fair why should football be?

and a quick word about the spain - ukraine game:

The Spaniards are overrated 3 of their goals were from set peaces (a deflected free kick and an unjustified penalty)
Ukraine played with 10 players most of the 2nd half
still Spain's 4th goal was class play but they suck and they will disappoint as they usually do… fuck them!!

antonioledesma 06-14-2006 10:16 PM

well, back here after a business trip.
I gotta say that brazil dissapointed a little. Croatia isn't an easy adversary, but everyone expected more from the scratch du oro. Of course it was the first game.

and... what a game with spain-ukraine. I thought that spain would have a difficult game, but even "niño" torres goal was excellent as a team play :D . Now to wait for a good tournament for my very far relatives  (some part of my mom's family is from the basque country)

germany-poland, was a good game and I believed it was gonna end 0-0. Poland is the first team that fails in the world cup, they had an excellent qualifying tournament.
Ukraine is getting close to that

SFDMALEX 06-14-2006 11:15 PM

I dont believe so.

This game is no indicator of what Ukraine is capable of mate.

This has been by far the worst international performance ukraine ever had.

And we played the spanish twice before. 2:2 and 2:1 for Spain.

The team just didnt play.

THey didnt make mistakes, they simply did not do anything....

they went out with half assed effort.

antonioledesma 06-14-2006 11:30 PM

hope you're correct. It would be very sad to see your country leave without showing their real abilities.
it looked like the team was split in half, besides Shevchenko didn't appeared :|

DeMoN 06-15-2006 12:40 AM

My friend is from Ecuador so now I gotta wake up 8am =(

LotusGT1 06-15-2006 03:09 AM

Well, if you take the dramatic change of Poland from the first game (half-assed weaklings) to the second game (hardworking fighters) Ukraine might have a chance. I was surprised however how little fire they showed.

But that is something I see with more teams. Haven''t seen much good games so far really.

Mattk 06-15-2006 08:03 AM

Brazil only won 1-0, which means Australia is at the top of the group! Ha! Not that it will last, but still.

Have you even refereed a sporting match? I referee basketball every week, and I have refereed football as well. Sometimes, you miss things, and sometimes, you call a foul/violation that isn't. You've got to trust your judgment. It's all too easy to criticise people when you're sitting on the sofa, but I've only seen a few blatant mistakes. We have the benefit of slow-motion replays on the TV. Refs don't. It's hard to make correct split-second decisions when many situations are touch-and-go.
