2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

yep.. belive it not..
i got a car... not just "a" car... but an awsome one!!
yep a STI im sooo :D !!!
i got it today around 6... ok her's the story..:
- I dont really know how it started but simply talkin about cars with my dad he figured i was interested in the STI alot.. together with the S2000... but the s2000 is too "impractical" since it only fits 2 so he rather go for the STI... my dad never test drove the STI.. which i think was a good thing casuse he would have probably backed off if he would have seen how fast it is...
anywyas we went to the dealersip a couple times but my dad didnt look very interested... but they kept calling and making offers like free short throw shifter.. (around 400$ buks), and they wven said if u buy it today we'll lower the price 1,000$... but my dad wasnt interested..
until last week he turned in our Yukon xl which no one needed now since my mom got a new truck for Christmas.. so he gave that in and went on a business trip so i had to wait..
There were only gray STI's at that dealership.. and i wanted it either black or blue.. i coudnt make up my mind.. but i went after the black one cause its not as common and looks as good. the car supposedly came with normal gunmetal wheels but turned out to have golden wheels.. i dont really mind.... it looks good...
anyways we went to pick it up today.. i drove it a little and the cars feels soo powerfull and responsive!! it feels like a little toy!! a little expensive toy that is ;)
anywyas let me post some pics so u dont get boored then ill keep talkin a little ;)

http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/5...y0015yh.th.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/723...y0024pz.th.jpg http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/3...y0047fs.th.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/635...y0057ve.th.jpg

A picture i liked and the custom pic, kinda:
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/1...y0075tu.th.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/429...y0085ae.th.jpg

yea the pics suck ill take proper pictures later... tomorrow.. i just coudnt wait to post it here!
i know theyr dark and the custom pic is bad too but just wait till tomorrow..
and ill post about the driving experience (which wasnt much), because i dont have my licence yet... so i "Cant drive it", ill get my licence hopefully on my birthday if i pas the tests... (APRIL 27TH) so its not thaaat bad..
hope u like it!

comment please!
thanks

Take it easy on the road, too many horror stories with guys your age and fast cars.

TT 03-26-2006 06:30 AM

STI in black are pure sex! Congrats and have (safe) fun!

BTW, in the custom shot, why "04 15 06" :hmm:

sikx5 03-26-2006 07:26 AM

Woah what a car, defintley nice dude! You had a 300ZX before this right?

Very nice! take car, and take some proper driving lessons, defensive driving etc, you will need it if you are going to drive that car. Because you have a fast car, does not mean you can or have the skill to drive it fast dude, remember that.

Tax day (most years.... its going to be 4 17 06 this year  )

nice car oscar... one of my personal favorites; enjoy her, and treat her well ;) :)

No.1 03-26-2006 10:18 AM

fantastic first car!

Be safe with it - the 4WD should sort you out  (just kiddin)

One question though, how do you get insured on a 200BHP + car at 17? In the UK, we would have to pay in excess of £4000 per year, and have to look for a very specialist insurance company too

USA is a bit cheaper...

im guessing the car is insured under his dad alone until oscar gets his license; at that point; he could be added as a second driver. my "very rough" estimate woud say its about 1200-1600 pounds/ year like that...

oscargarza88 03-26-2006 12:17 PM

:D
thanks everyone!

- I know im dam lucky!! thats why i plan on keepin it cool for the first weeks/months.. even though its going to be hell not to go fast... but its got 5 year warrany! and i am going to use every single year of it on the road!

-And well it kinda is my second car... yes sikx5 i used to own a 300zx ( http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcp13533dv.jpg ), only for like a year before moving and all that crap.. but this is my first car in the US, and my "long-term" car... and my first manual... i actually got the hang of it faster than i thought.. cause i learned to drive in stick but i havent driven one in years... only stalled once so far and acouple times engaged 5th instead of third... but for the first time i think it went good!

-saddie= i didnt really think of that! i feel special 8) hahaha, and im not really a great photographer... but ill try my best....

-dingo= dont hate lol :P , i know most people here deserve this car more than me... but well i owe it all to my dad! hes just an amazing guy! i cant belive he bought me this!!

i got a few questions...
-I have to break in the engine right? ive heard that most cars now a days are already "broken in"... but i rather make sure.. so be easy like for the first 500-1000 miles?
-And about some proper driving classes im higly interested... does someone recomend a place where i coult take some clases to get the most of my STI?

anyayws any quiestions or somethin just ask!
and i sure will b carefull i dont want to b in the news anytime soon thank you!
0X

*oh and about the insurance... my brother used to have a mustang gt so i think it will b cheaper for this car cause its a 4 door.... and the insurance people probably dont even know this is a sports car haha, but we have a plan that everyone is under the insurance.. once i get my licence of coarse, but yea its really high! cause we have no history in the US... oh and i have prom the 29th... so i dunno if ill have my licence by then...hopefully... btw my girlfriends family was highly impressed by the car..brownie points lol
Oh and this car is really underestimated... alot of peoplea re like a subaru? is that a car? oh cool..."ill take you" pfft yea ok fine...
which is cool there the ones missing out! :)

sentra_dude 03-26-2006 12:39 PM

Nice car man...and I know its been said before, and we're not trying to be your mother, but be safe with that thing...;)

Also, I've heard that STi's don't have a break-in period, that they do all the engine run-in at the factory, is this true :?:

no, that is untrue

i'd recomend 1000 miles before really opening her up; after that, change the oil to a synthetic brand.

ive run low milage subarus, and "more" milage subies; and the difference is mostly in the low end... kinda feels like its athsmatic before boost comes on... comparitively speaking.

Insurance is way cooler in the US than in the UK :|

With running in, my friend's WRX had to be kept sub-4k rpm (iirc) for the first 1000 miles.

Then, it gets its first service with an oil change 'cos by then all the little bits of metal etc that have worn off are in the oil, and so it needs a change.

Check the owners manual, or ask the dealers too

oscargarza88 03-26-2006 01:15 PM

-nthfinity- thanks, im glad i have to break it in.. even a bigger reason to drive slow  although its gonna take me awhile to do those 1000 miles haha

and about the oild change... the guy at the dealership said to change it at the 3k mark.. and tire rotation at 7k... isnt the oil it has already synthetic...? i thougt it was.. but i read part of the owner manual yesturday ill continue today...

but thenumber1 yea that makes sence... ill read the manual...
and it jsut has like 190 miles.. so its a loong way to 1000 :(
thanks

No.1 03-26-2006 01:17 PM

lol - i know if i'd taken delivery of an STi, i wouldn't be sitting down reading the manual :P

The oil thing may vary between markets (euro and US).

1000 miles - i'd do that in a weekend with a car like that

Fleischmann 03-26-2006 05:00 PM

^^^same here, somehow I like it in the typical rally blue colour. The car still looks great in black, especailly with the classic gold rims. nice way to upgrade from the 300ZX, congrats. Have fun driving.

ARMAN 03-26-2006 05:35 PM

I hate you  jk

Congrats Oscar!!! :P Be very careful(about loosing your temper on the street) even if you know you shold be
Driving school for such powerfull cars is a must IMHO, not just to know where are the limits but to try out how uncotrolable it could be, atleast it is the first thing I would do is to take a course like that

coombsie66 03-26-2006 06:45 PM

Nice car! I know its been said before but seriously be carefull with that thing!! Its not about driving ability its about experience on the road, ive seen soo many tossers in cars that arnt as quick as that scooby come sooo close to hurting themselfs let alone someone else.

Still enjoy it, i know i wouldnt have turned one down if i had the chance to have it as my first car!!

As for running in, i believe it was discussed somewhere else around here but its not only the engine you are running in, sure they will have been dyno run at the factory, but the entire drivetrain, diffs, seals etc etc wont have been, and gears NEED bedding in, all the complex differentials in the STI would be very expensive to replace i would guess!! Everything engine related needs heat cycles through it to 'bed it in' so follow the instructions in the manual, and then once its had its first service and oil change then it can be properly 'run in'
By which time at least you'll have had your licence a while so it wont seem so bad when you loose it! :P

antonioledesma 03-26-2006 06:56 PM

Excelente auto Oscar!!

for the breaking period it is around the 1-2k mark.
right now I'm also with a new car (ford fiesta) and I try not to surpass the 4k rpm barrier, nor big accelerations or sustained high speeds (I drive a lot in freeways)

try to change the oil at 2500 miles or 3000 kms.

sameerrao 03-26-2006 07:00 PM

Congrats Oscar ... Best of luck for your licence ... enjoy yourself and be careful with it ... some people have the mistaken belief that AWD will get you out any situation .. not always true ....

SPEEDCORE 03-26-2006 10:23 PM

Congrats on convincing your dad in getting a new STi. Black is the colour id buy a my06 STI :)

I have owned 2 WRX's and they both needed a run-in and alot of tuners around here recommend running it in, THO, keeping it under 4000rpm for 1500km is very hard!!! and I did give it sometimes haha :)

oscargarza88 03-27-2006 12:46 AM

thanks 4 the repyls! im feelin the love!! wait.. actually the car is... dam! :P

-dani_d_mas- I know abiut the blue thing.. but at the dealership there were 3 blue ones.. so well at least this is not as common yet still looks awsome!
-Fleischmann- thanks! i know i didnt like the wheels at first but i like them now... as i said i thought they were goin to b normal silver but no... its cool though.
-ARMAN- Ur soo right about the course! i need to take one! but does someone recomend me one? because i "dont know how it feels" to be out of control so if i actually do get out of control it wont be nice... i want to ge the most i can out of my car! someone help with this?
-coombsie66- i will trust me ;) , and yea i read that thread before but i just want to make sure... it goin to be hard not stepping on it... i got 800 miles to go dam!. actually today i stepped on it like twice... and the first time i did in second gear my head just jercked backwards without contro!! dam i cant belive it!! im not doing that anymore its scary!!!! (in a way  not really... ) but ill save that for the track... im glad i have to wait 1000 miles to have more "Experience" even though i know its nothin.. at least to make smooth gear changes...
-antonioledesma- thanks!! yea ill change the oil at 3000 about...
-sameerrao- thanks! i hope that my knoledge about cars will help me in a good way to take care of my car... not in a temptation way...
-SPEEDCORE- thanks! the efforts payed off! and good! and what will happen theoretically if u didnt obey these 1k mile break in...? jsut wonderin.. not that im gonna do it!!
anyways i have lots of pics to take!!! ill do when ih ave time! as for now.. well my dad is probably gonna put the 1000 miles for me since he will drive it a couple times to work... its cool.!
and well thanks for the replys! and extra info would b greatly appreciated!!!
thanks again

nthfinity 03-27-2006 01:09 AM

about the first 1k miles... i would seriously recomend changing the oil as well...

about a rally driving course; unless you plan on spending money on some more dirt-related tires... some schools offer thier own cars to learn in...

anyway... does subie still offer a 1 year membership to SCCA with WRX, and STi's?

if the number still exists (2004) then they will know of the closest answer for you.

good luck... damn, that is definately one of my favorites :)

oscargarza88 03-27-2006 08:37 AM

-nthfinity- I actually wasnt thinkin much about rally school... i was thinkin more of a road/track course... i dont know if it may sound stupid because it is a rally car after all but i dont think i could put the nesesary pounding on such an expensive car just "for fun" if u know what i mean... and my dad wont b too happy either when i first break a fender, or scratch the paint.. or something like that.... and i could put my track/road knoledge to the test more often...
and about the membershio they didnt offer any kind of membership to me...
but thanks it would be soo much fun though!
-bmuller- haha ur dad is an insurance agent.. so its a win win situation as where the oney goes haha, and yea i woudnt wanna lose my licence specially cause i will b getting it soon... im from tomball... so its basically goin to be the most bad as car in the parking lot (which will b parked away of all the other cars btw)

and thanks for everyone warning me about being carefull! because when every single person that replys tells me to be carefull! i dont think it for nothing... i took it seriouslly... all u guys are older than me, so u must know what ur talkin about...
and again.. pictures... today sounds promising cause i have tenis class until 7.. so not much sunlight left at like 8... but ill do asap really!!

0X

Rex 03-28-2006 12:49 PM

congratulation on your handsome STI ... that car is ready to be modify ... :D

dutchmasterflex 03-28-2006 02:30 PM

perfect color.. I bet the gun metal rims would look real good on it, but the gold aint too bad..

what the hell am i sayin.. you lucky bastard! an STI and you dont even have you license..

be good to your parents!

Make sure you learn how to handle the car properly before doing anything stupid, and trust me, you will do many stupid things within your first year of driving ;)

I suggest taking it to an open parking lot to find it's limits,

cheers ya lucky guy

oscargarza88 03-28-2006 08:02 PM

i drove it today a little! (shh..) hahaha

-Rex- Thank you!! i agree... but i com on its already too much for me! i would b asking for the world if i would ask my dad for money for parts..
-everso- Thanks everso! so does this get me into the AWD cool people group ;) lol . and yea i promise! i will try my hardest!! caue its tempting!
-dutchmasterflex- I agree about the color! and about the wheels, exactly my thoughs! but these dont look bad so im happy! :) , im alwasy good to my parents.. why do u think i got this car.. haha.. suuure.... , and yea i hope i dont do anything too stupid! i know i will probably do a couple stupid things but hopefully nothing too bad! cross ur fingers! and yes i agree about the parking lot idea.. although i will not reach the limit anytime soon so i dont worry too much ;)

oh and i have pics comin up! in a couple of mins!
thanks!!!

well there is nothing stopping crap getting in through the scoop and bending some of the fins on the intercooler.....I often clean gravel out of mine. ;)

I thought about putting some mesh in there to stop it but not sure how it would look.

TT 03-29-2006 02:45 PM

LOL dude, next time you take pics remember: sun must never be low behind the car if possible ;)

chest3r 03-29-2006 05:23 PM

Great car !! 8)

I would only change the wheels. I don't like golden wheels. Black ones would look great

oscargarza88 03-29-2006 06:33 PM

-Rex- got it thanks
-dingo- that is tru... but its new... and it looked so good.. hahaha o well.. and yea mesh wont look too good...
-TT- i noticed that... i thought it mayb have looked cool if it would have beenin the corner of the picture.. but no... u probably need a bunch of special lenses or filters to do that... i thought of piting thecar on the oter side of the street and using the sun but i didnt.. it rainin right now so no pics i guess....
-chest3r- and i agree black ones would look great! mayb some time... not naytime soon.. i would rather spend the money on something else (performance wise)
thanks
i hope i find a good subaru forum.. i used to be in one but i forgot it was years ago... does someone knoe which is the best?

i am proud to say that i have a licence now!
yea i passed both tests the first try... the only reason im proud of that is because my dad kept telling me how i was going to fail it, and i proved him wrong...
the only think im waiting on now is for my name to be in the insurance card which should be here anyday now... im glad because the car has been in the garage all this time... it barelly has 400 miles on it... its sad its not broken in yet! and i plan on getting a job over the summer to get some money to start modding it. so far im gonna buy the K&N typhoon intake, and for christmas im getting the Cobb exaust... not that it needs any mods.
But now i just want to drive it!
and this means photoshoots so i can post more pics!

of coarse i will!
when is the next one? :D
i know it probably isnt for a while... and im a "new driver" so you cant expect great driving from me... or to keep up but i think i could keep up with some of the cars that went last time haha

04RCSTI 05-28-2006 11:27 AM

congrats on the Car fellow STI owner.
K&N Typhoon is a good intake, just get the short ram with the heatshield because the Cold air will only get you marginally better results that are hardly worth the amount of time and hassle it takes to install it. Cobb Exhausts are quiet and wont necessarily flow as well as some other alternatives. But I'm guessing your plan right now is just to buy a few parts, go stage 2 tune and keep it that way. That will be more HP than you should be able to handle anytime soon. Take care, if you ever have any questions on mods dont hesitate to ask either here or on NASIOC...if youre on there.

EDIT: Oh and dont wrap it around any trees. Learn to drive it before you start going into any backwoods, respect is your friend.

thanks.
yea i was thinking on the one with the heatshields..., and the cobb exaust, well yea mayb it wont give me as good numbers as other may give me but it sounds good, not too loud, and gives hp, thats all i need really...
and actually im in www.iwsti.com , its a great site, has helped alot.
Its so tempting to go fast! but eveytime i even think about it i stop myself because most of the time its not worth the risk. yesturday a C5 vette wanted to race me, i overtook him in 4th, full throttle and i was at his side and he floored it, it was a 2 way street so i let off after a couple of seconds... not worth it, i dont feel confortable with trees a couple of feet away... lol, it was goin to be a good race though!

yeah im on IWSTI as well, been on there for years. Cobb sounds good. And a C5 regular vette should be no problem for you.. I highly suggest getting an Accessport as soon as possible...get a good tune and you will be very happy.

Now now, don't get oscar off on the wrong foot - a 300bhp/3400lb 2006 STi is not going to just walk away from a 3200lb 350bhp C5 ;) - unless it's being driven by a an old geezer on the way to starbucks to pose with his neighbour who drove the 360 ;) :P

Add to that the fact that if a bloke lines up, it's probable his car is no longer stock :P -- we don't want to get oscar into trouble by getting him to take on every stock looking car out there now do we... ? :P ;)

haha lol RC...
actually ur right, it wasnt stock... at least not the exaust.. it was loud, sounded good... and as i said i would have guessed it was goin to b a good race... cause for those few seconds we were even... if it would have been in 249 i wouldnt have let off so soon.

04RCSTI- yea i was looking at the accesport too but it sounds complicated though... i would like to talk to someone about it, not only read about it, to fully understand it...
