GT4 Demo available from Toyota.com

It's no Prologue, but it's something.

Go to http://www.toyota.com/index1.html
Then hover your mouse over the vehicles link at the top left, a little box will popup, then go to brochures, another box pops up and then click on "request brochure"

Fill out the info (take note that a phone number is NOT required, a guy on another forum is getting calls from a local dealer). At one point, it'll ask what you want a brochure for, make sure to choose the Prius as one of them.

Submit and wait for it to arrive!

It's a limited game, only cars are the Toyota Motor Triathalon Car and the Prius. Fuji & Grand Canyon are the only tracks, for two laps, with a 2 minute time limit.
It's not much, but it's something and it's free. To bad we didn't get the same version Japan did. It had 40 different Toyotas, no time limit and more tracks I believe.

BTW, I'm told it supports steering wheels for those who were wondering.

Tell everyone you know to order it. HopefullyToyota will get swamped with orders and PD will get a clue and start giving us the special GT games.

Hmmm thanks quit handy, I don't need it any more. I'll go tomorrow to the shop and buy it.

but as for that demo, thats AWESOME. props to Toyota for offering it. there's probably some playstation deal behind the scenes but still, it shows that toyota seems to believe that GT4 is as close to real as it gets. can't wait for GT4 to come out. hope and pray that they don't push back the release date any furthur

suqish76 06-02-2004 10:49 AM

GT4 isnt but GT4 "prologue" is
has anyone else played it yet ?
I was playing it today and thought it was ok, (there's no car settings etc, very much like GT concept)
but i'll wait for the full version

Fuck, I'm in Canada so i don't think I can order it. Gonna go check Toyota's Canadian site now to see if they have it too.

Sachmo12345 06-02-2004 04:28 PM

Vansquish 06-03-2004 10:19 PM

must be too late, it says that the GT4 DVD is out of stock hehe.

sads 06-04-2004 02:11 AM

Its worth froking out the money for the Prlogue simply for the bonus DVD its awsome

Squeek 06-04-2004 09:32 AM

does anybody know if this offer from toyota is available in the UK?

gis 06-04-2004 09:38 AM

why bother gettin it when prolouge is available here :D

spyd3rr 06-07-2004 12:16 AM

that is not fair...why won't they release prologue in the US?!??!

i can personally guarantee them that it will sell well haha too bad they won't take my word for it.

Vansquish 06-07-2004 12:23 AM

I think they figure that by teasing us Yanks they'll end up selling more copies of the finalized game here. I mean, look at us, we're sitting here salivating at all the different Prologues that have come out and the best we can get at the moment is some piddly thing with a couple of tracks and a couple of marginal Toyotas. All I can say is it has to be a marketing ploy. All the same, if you check out Suprnova.org, there is a copy of the Prologue that someone ripped that you can download as a torrent. The only question is that I haven't heard any feedback on whether the file actually burns to a DVDR and then plays properly in the PS2.

It probably would. But you need a modchip for it to work most likely.

Vansquish 06-07-2004 02:52 AM

That was sort of my assumption, but I'm hoping to hear otherwise hehehe.

But this is a HUGE mistake on Sony and PD's part - because even if everyone who wants GT4, buys it - that is only 1 sale.

Had they released all the prologues and other teasers here, they could have sold each one for $25+ and had 3 or more sales to every GT enthusiast.

This is not the first time the Sony America executives have fucked themselves out of money simply because they think they know what the consumer wants better than the consumer themselves.

They now run the risk of the market actually growing tired and moving on to something else... 2 years is a LONG time to expect people to stay focused.

Vansquish 06-07-2004 04:16 PM

Hehe...intelligent guy that I am, I didn't really think about that side of the coin. Of course you're right RC45...there is no way that the Prologues wouldn't sell like hotcakes here and that there would be more individual sales from that than by merely opening the floodgates at some point later this year. Oh well...perhaps they'll learn from their mistakes this time and decide to change tactics for GT5 :-)

666fast 06-07-2004 08:51 PM

Ok, I recieved my copy today. I put it in my PS2 hoping it would work, and of course, it didn't. So I started to tinker with it. Taking it apart for the second time and turning that damn gear to adjust the lens.
Two hours later and it'll load the Demo and PSone games. Nothing else. Which is really wierd in my opinion. It won't load any other PS2 game I have or any DVD movies. Sony has successfully built the dumbest, most anger inspiring machine in the world. Piece of crap! Once it's replaced, my current machine will die a horrible death by tack hammer.

Anyway, I finally get to play the game.
You've got two choices for cars. The Prius and the Toyota Triathalon car.
The Prius is painfully slow at everything. It's acceleration is nothing worth writing home about. I'm sure that was obvious though. But it seems a bit slow at steering as well. It just isn't very fun to drive. The only options you've got are to switch tires (Street, Sport and Arcade, can't use racing tires) you can turn off the traction control and of course switch from manual to automatic. Thats it.

The Triathalon car. Wierd! First, it has to occupants, which is kind of wierd. It's entirely electric, so it makes a bit of a funny buzzing noise. Dont' worry, it isn't very annoying. But the display is wierd, it's got a little meter on the screen to show how much throttle or brake you are giving. The wierd bit come sin that there are 4 meters. I'm guessing that means that each wheel has it's own motor. It's not the fastest thing, I think the fastest I got it up to was about 160 before slamming on the brakes. It's fairly quick, not mind blowing, but far more fun than the Prius. It's handing is pretty good, but not the best. The neatest part is watching it lower/raise itself. When you are on the road it sits nice and low. But if you go offroad, it springs up to give it some more clearance.

There were two tracks. Fuji Speedway and the Grand Canyon course.
Fuji speedway is pretty cool, but leaves an open spot for easy cheating. At oen point there is a runoff area just before a sharp right hander at the end of a long, speedy turn. You can be honest and take the turn, or fly into the runoff area and turn just before you hit the dirt.
Grand Canyon, pretty cool. It's tight and of course has lots of turns. This is where I first noticed the Triathalon car adjusted it's ride height. It starts out has tarmac then gives way to dirt. When you get into the dirt road, the track gets a bit wider, so it's more forgiving since you'll be sliding all about. The spectators are pretty cool. There are a few that will stand in the middle fo the road and run as you get near them. Other than that, there are only a few groups of spectators that actually move. They all seem to be 3D though.

The graphics are pretty damn good. It's not mind blowing though. The backgrounds are what really look good. On the Grand Canyon Track, the cliffs and trees all look extremely good. The track surfaces are pretty good as well. Overall, I guess what I'm saying is that it looks better than GT3 did, but not by much IMO.

The handling of the cars is what gets me. It may just be the cars, but it just seems a bit off. I dont' have a wheel (I should get one though) but there doesn't seem to be much feedback to the controller. I dont' feel as if I'm actually driving anything. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I don't particularly like it. Hopefully it's just the cars.
The demo has a 2 minute time limit, which is just farking dumb. My first outing on Fuji with the speedway, I wasn't able to complete one fricken lap.
It's a 2 lap time trial though. You figure that oen out. if someone manages to squeeze two laps in, you spend too much time playing videogames! :P
You cannot run the Prius at the Grand Canyon, but you can run the Triathalon car at both tracks.

What really annoys me though, is that the things I wanted changed or fixed, haven't been. I can still slam into a wall sideways without losing too much speed. Unless you do it in the Triathalon car, it comes to a stop if you hit something at the wrong angle. Also, running onto the grass does not slow you down!!!! ARG :x :x
I tested it myself, you can keep going without problems off the track.
Unfortunately, there are no other cars to race against, so I can't comment on the AI.

Overall, it's nice to get a glimpse of GT4. But I do hope that some changes are made. It's entertaining, but I won't be playing often!
For those of you who weren't able to get a copy if this demo, don't worry, you really aren't missing that much.

TT 06-07-2004 08:56 PM

AI is basically as stupid as ever dude :( and in GT4P if you hit a wall, your max speed become 50 km/h for 10 seconds... sure no real damage but enough to enforce your stay on the road :D

Thats cool, thats been one of my major gripes with the GT games. The ability to slam into stuff at full speed and keep going.

666fast 06-07-2004 09:49 PM

I've just found out that it does include the penalty for salmming into the wall. Only problem is that you've got to hit it pretty damn hard.
Also, it gives you the option to choose manual or automatic on the screen. But guess what, you can't do anything with it.
With the two minute limit, you ar elucky to get one lap in with the Prius on Fuji. So far this demo has been more of a hassle than anything.
I'm glad this was free. Had I paid for this I'd be very upset.

TT 06-08-2004 04:48 AM

Pretty dumb to give the manual option when the only two cars are electric ones indeed!! :D

i agree. the penalty pissed me off a bit but at least it will teach you how to drive/ race better

Sachmo12345 06-09-2004 03:33 PM

i got mine in today in the mail the cars that are on the disc suck ass

komotar 06-09-2004 05:02 PM

It costs 55 dollars here(slovenia), that's too much for a demo.
So I stayed in the store, for 2 hours and finished the game.
The car handling is much better, attention to detail is just crazy...
Can't wait !!!

TT 06-09-2004 05:14 PM

They are talking about the Toyota Demo, it is free, and even smaller than the Prologue ;)
