New BMW 2 series
Has anyone heard about this? I keep hearing a word here and a word there about it, but I've seen no pictures or press releases or anything. It would be great to have BMW making four cylinder engines again.
Ive heard of the one series but i havent heard of the 2.
Did you mean the 1 series?
New bmw lineup will be from 1 series to 7 series.2 and 4 and 6 will be convertibles or coupes. There will be M2(series 1 coupe and convertible)M3(3 series saloon and estate)M4(3 series coupe and convertible are now called 4 series) and 6 serise coupe and convertible. This info is from AutoCar.

Are that many different people really going to want BMW's? *Gasp*
Well, if they're changing all the names like that I might have meant the 1 series, but I think I meant the 2 series. I've just heard that they are going to pick up where they left off with the old 2002s, so I assumed 2 series. Who knows, BMW is a mess right now.
pimrusis, these nonsense posts of yours are really starting to get on even my nerves. |
When will these new series be available?
No sense of humor, Epic. I am appalled.
any pics of these yet?
The 2 series will in deed be a 2-door version of the 1 series (in 2005 I believe). But please note that BMW is making 4-cyl engines all the time. Both petrol and diesel. Even the non-throttle VALVETRONIC system was first put to 1.8 litre 4-cyl engine in the Compact and 3-series (now seen in V8 engines as well).
As Imre has already mentioned, the 2-series will basically be a two-door version of the 1-series, previewed as the CS1 concept car. There will be an M2, but no M1, as a mark of respect to the BMW M1, the Bavarian automaker's first, and only, supercar. The M2 will supposedly have a 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing up to 260 Bhp, from 2.2 litres, with modified Valvetronic throttle lift and Double VANOS cams, rivalling the VTEC engine of the S2000 for specific output (2 litres, 240 bhp). There are also plans afoot, still in consideration by the BMW board, i believe, to either make a 2-series cabriolet (4 seats) or a smaller, lighter version of the Z4 called, obviously, the Z2, a strict two-seater. Both of which would use the chassis of the E92 2-series, whicih itself is derived from the E91 1-Series.

hgt, you're right about them making four cylinder engines, I forgot. What I meant was it will be nice to have the four cylinder models availible in the US again. Of course there's the mini too, but it's not quite a BMW.

Today I heard that The Bmw 1 series will be released in 2004 September (or October)..
But still there is no pics about it.. |
are there any spyfoto or an illustration about m2?
i think as of late news, BMW dropped the idea of 2, and 4 series. Cuz the next 3 series should still be Coupes and Sedans, and Converts. I havent heard anything new on a 2 series though. My guess is they dropped it, and will just continue with one series. Also talk about opening up a dead thread. :P
if i know a bit about bmw, they will make an m version of 1 series but as it was stated before, they can not call it M1 because of the history. so they should make something new. i do not know whether this new something will be a new line?
the M1 was a great car, thats why I expected the 1's series to bee great, not cheap!

this idea of separating the 1,3,5,7 series for the saloon cars, and the series 2,4,6,8 for coupes and cabrios is an old idea actually...for instance this policy has been always fulfilled by BMW for every case except for the 3 series (here we go the 6 series and 8 series for the medium big sized coupes) they have always maintained the M3 name for its smallest sporty versions in order to not to loose the already gained prestige in 1987

i know bout the M1, but BMW doesnt need a new supercar. |
Last thing I read is that a BMW official said that there is definately not going to be a 2 and 4 series. The cars (coupé and convertible based on the 1 series platform and the same based on the 3 series) will come, but they won't be given 2 and 4 series names.
