Uncool. The Z06 looks better.

enzoferrari 02-16-2008 07:32 PM

subzero,it looks good, and the power its amazing.

styla21 02-16-2008 08:57 PM

Cool. Looks TOUGH from any angle.

there are still about "3" good years left ;) .. and plenty to be excited about until then ;)

But no way could GM bring something to market even a year later, and hope to have some kind of "good" business model for it's success.

mayer 02-17-2008 03:53 PM

Cool.
+600 HP cars are almost always cool. I'm not digging the exterior looks though. Z06 is more clean, too many things on this car look tacked on. If this was more like the Pratt & Miller car, it'd be sub-zero.

patond 07-17-2008 04:02 PM

Sub-zero fastest, most powerful car well probably ever see from an American manufacturers ever thanks to California. Want one. Magnetic suspension and over 600hp, and dealership serviceable. cant lose.

Spiffu 07-17-2008 04:19 PM

It looks better in gunmetal grey, and yes seriously cool.

I don't get bothered like others by the engine view plate. A car that powerful needs to look aggressive.

HeilSvenska 07-17-2008 07:40 PM

Huh. I didn't vote on this yet?

It's the ultimate 'Vette no doubt. But is it cooler than the Z06? Hmmmmmmmmmm...

I would say yes, and no.

Yes because it will be brutally fast in a Lambo Murci sort of way... no because it is slightly over weight in a Lambo Murci sort of way ;)

EvolutioniuM 07-17-2008 08:27 PM

Uncool; as its a function over form!!!

Not the coolest corvette ever
Does not look good, especially the side ducts
Does not sound good, no supercharger whine too
Quality is not good too, the dashboard is 2 cm off its place every time you accelerate

But damn its as tempting as an exotic-flavored ice cream to an 8-year-old in a sunny day :D

Please explain the bold line above. I have been in numerous C5 and C6 Vettes, and NEVER seen the dash move 2mm let alone 2cm's when you accelerate.

And what was that about "no supercharger whine"?

silentm 07-17-2008 10:15 PM

hmm really a tough one, actually from the looks i prefer the ZO6 over this one, i can't really get myself to like those bling-bling rims ;)

'cool' is what it gets and deserves.

79TA 07-18-2008 03:25 AM

I only gave it a cool. Despite being the most powerful production GM car of all time, it doesn't give me chills like the Z06 did. Maybe my mind will change when I see one for real. But for now, my high regards for the Z06 prevent the ZR1 from drawing my attention in the same way.

Sounds like a tuned LSx with a low whine!! have you ever heard a SLR accelerating, after all the low whine is a characteristic feature of Eaton roots superchargers

About the quality, go to the nearest Toyota dealership and try to knock on the dashboard and the inner door panels, you'll know what I mean

don't get me wrong, if I was in the market for a $100K sports car I would get a Z06 without hesitation, but it GM could made it much better

That's what it is. What the hell are you thinking expecting Merc V8 sound from an LS with an Eaton supercharger?

I'm expecting a supercharger whining like a 6-year-old kid who got his candy stolen, what a big supercharger usually sounds like

leave the sound its meaning less to complain about it and ignore how horrible does this car look like

Not really, I'm pretty much familiar with American cars, most of the current GM cars sucks in terms of interior quality, especially SUVs .. think of the all new Yukon or Suburban

The thing I cant understand is how many of you guys acts like fanboys, I mean its should be socially acceptable to be disappointed from the styling, quality and the sound of a high performance car!!!!!!

I bet there exist some members whom want to punch me in the face just because I publicly admit that the ZR1 is not a good looking car

I think the point is less how quality gm interiors are.. and more the utter shock that you think Toyotas interiors are nice. At best the Japanese might.. might.. be as good as the Americans in interior design. That isn't a complement.

I have been in an SLR accelerating - and your point?

Again - your are talking out of your backside.. YOU said the dash board moves 2cm when accelerating.

That is pure crap. But if you had of driven any C5 or C6 Corvettes you would know this.

Oh - and I have been in and around and driven my fair share of Toyotas... they are no less plastic or better built than any modern GM vehicle.

Again you are wrong.

Why would you spend $100K on a $70K vehicle?

Hmm - again - you are simply not being truthfull. WHy not take a camera and go take pictures o fall these "current GM cars and tracks with badly made interiors"

You will find you will have very few photos to show for your effort.

Sure it is. But if you kept your "opinion" based on facts, people would give it more credit.

You wont find a single person like that here - you are entitled to your own opinion, and looks are subjective.

You see, its not against the law to have a diffeent opinion were we come from. Feel free to dislike what ever you want, but don't try to pass off incorrect stereotypes and flat out lies as the basis for your "subjective opinion" - if you do, you will get called out :)

No - YOU stated that the C6 Z06 dash moves 2cm under acceleration.

You were caught in a lie.

Care to explain your first bullshit comment before you run off crying?

You do realize that the leather option in current Corvettes is done by the same people who do the Maybach interiors right? Apparently you don't hold Maybach in the same high regards as you do as saaay, Toyota.

The ZR1 is the 100k car, not the Z06.

eunos94 07-19-2008 08:47 AM

I desperately want to call it cool but just can't do it. The stupid looking (to me) window on the hood and a few other details give it the look of a cheezy aftermarket accessory pack. It's just not clean enough and slick enough to look factory even for GM. Perhaps it's the preproduction examples or perhaps .. I dunno. Other cars with poor fit and finish like old Lotus Elans, Esprits etc certainly ring my "omg that's really cool" meter but this one leaves me cold so I vote seriously uncool.

Still it is brutally fast and handles well but that isn't enough for me to make it cool.

Meh. Practically any car that cost more than $50,000 US can be considered a penis extension.

Vansquish 07-30-2008 05:06 PM

Not as good-looking as the other C6 Vettes. Yes it will be extremely fast, but it's still not going to have the same sort of panache and cachet that other similarly-performing vehicles (price notwithstanding). The rear lip spoiler is awful, the window on the bonnet is absolutely tasteless as are the new, enlarged vents behind the front wheels, and the interior doesn't look any more special than the standard 'Vette's. I would love to love this car, but I can't bear to think of doing so. Seriously Uncool, as it is the American iteration of the Veyron...the ultimate pissing contest...

Looks are all subjective. To me the C6 base coupe is bland and broing looikgn and the stock wheels are faceless.

The C6 Z and the ZR1 rear spoilers are great looking and very functional, not unlikeother marques spoilers.

The fender gills are a key component of Vette styling as have fender vents/coves been on other marques - again, no issues there.

How is the hood window tasteless? If thi sis true then the Carrera GT mesh, the engine cover windows of countless other mid-eniged cars and the engine window on the Testa Rossa were also tasteless.

;)

ALl subjective opinions on a car you either like or dislike.

Take the 550/575 - a shape I love and the 599 a shape I detest - all a matter of taste ;)

Which Base wheels? Remember the base wheels changed in 08 significantly.

And let he who doesn't drive an ugly notch back with flip up headlights throw the first stone ;)

For that it would need to be automatic, slower, with less power and have skinny wheels... like a BMW.

I had this opinion the day I saw the C5 coupe at the autoshow debut. Reminds me of the NSX - too clinical from any angle.

Its just a matter of taste :)

graywolf624 07-30-2008 07:19 PM

Taste? Who said anything about taste? I drive a Trans Am that vaguely resembles the old batmobile... I don't think taste ever factored in ;)

Mattk 07-30-2008 08:51 PM

It looks ugly, therefore looks uncool. It may drive well and have lots of space, but if I'm spending money on a car, I want it to look good from the outside.

I'm not trying to pick a fight RC, and I absolutely agree, that everyone should be allowed their own opinion and so forth, but the ZR1 is just not as tastefully-styled as the Z06, or the standard Vette (about which I agree as being somewhat mundane, at least the ZR1 cannot be accused of THAT hehe). I rather like the wheels on the ZR1, and the fact that it looks lower, wider, and meaner even than the significantly low, wide and mean-looking Z06. However, the ZR1 lip spoiler is, to me at least, quite unnattractive. It looks fairly tacked-on compared to even the Z06. It may well be beautifully functional, but I think that even a plain gurney flap would look better than the tri-level arrangement on the ZR1. It looks like an afterthought to me even if it isn't. As far as the gills, yes, they are also necessary, but they look a bit too flashy to me, too much like an afterthought as well. I imagine that the job of extracting air from the engine compartment could've been as well accomplished by a set of vents that were more fluidly integrated into the fenders, and the same goes for the brake-cooling ducts ahead of the rear wheels, they look a bit like afterthoughts.

As for the hood window, again, it looks like an afterthought, a window to show how macho the car is without being there for any true performance-oriented purpose. The clear hood scoop on various Ferraris over the years have been a means to channel air to the intake trumpets for the engine. The CGT mesh is again multi-purpose, as it provides cooling to the engine as well as providing a view of an attractively-styled set of airboxes and engine components. OK, some of the cars out there that have windows to their engine compartments have them for the same reason as the ZR1 (Gallardo, etc...), namely to show off the attractive engine that lies beneath. The ZR1's is more like a porthole though, not a display case for the greater part of the engine, nor of anything more interesting than the plastic top for a supercharger intake, and that is why it's tasteless. It performs no real function, and could have shown something much more interesting, and it could have been integrated more smoothely and fully than what is on the ZR1.

I guess what I'm saying is that GM had a great place to start, with the Z06, and could certainly have put together a more cohesive and attractive package. For instance, imagine some more Stingray-inspired styling queues, or simply gone for something that had a larger power dome with a larger Naca intake duct, and a more smoothly-integrated gurney flap could've gone on the rear. They could even have gone for something more along the lines of the C6R and the car could've looked quite a bit better as a result.

As for the 550/575 vs. the 599GTB, I think I'm in your camp there. I'm not a huge fan of the 599GTB's styling. It's nowhere near as pretty as the 550/575 were. Sometimes newer isn't better....
