1/2 mile and 1 mile shootout

This weekend I will be participating in an airforce base shootout. We will be bringing the Mclaren SLR, Gallardo Spider, and Z06. Should make for an interesting event as there will be a bunch of other cars, including Lambos and Ferraris. As a side note, I may be running a F16 with the Mclaren.

Thats my video, and there are a few things you need to know. Number 1, Rob from Superspeeders and I filmed that video going uphill at almost a 3000ft elevation in 110 degree heat on 91 octane gas. The Lp640 was filmed in Ney York, going slightly downhill, on a 80 degree day on 93 octane gas. The video was meant to get the guys on my board excited.

The truth is, the SLR is substantially faster than the Lp640. 2 different people who own both cars have already raced the 2, and SLR pulls the Lp640 pretty hard. From what i have seen so far, and we will hopefully try this this weekend, you can start the SLR in comfort mode (means the car starts from a dead stop in 2nd gear instead of 1st) and after the Lp640 gets a slight jump, the SLR catches and passes it. In 1st gear, the Lp640 has no chance.

A few of the cars we have alreay raced with the SLR:

575 AWHP approx 640crank HP 996TT The Porsche has STage 5 engine mods, running race gas and meth injection. Owner is a good friend of mine, we have run several times. SLR wins everytime.

640rwhp Ford GT, raced several times, each time his nose was on my rear bumper. He did have a passanger, I was alone, otherwise inmo, the race would have been very close.

660rwhp Porsche GT2, owner has run this car in the mid 10's at 137mph in the 1/4. In a race from 40-140mph, he was approx 2 cars ahead of me, and would have most likely continued to pull away a little bit more.

575AWHP Porsche 997TT, in a 60-160mph race, the SLR has a very slight advantage pulling maybe 1/2 a car length.

The SLR pulls harder than its numbers suggest, as the numbers are achieved with the traction control on, which doesnt allow the car to make full power to approx 60mph.

Here are the results, I was actually disqualified, because we were not allowed to run more than 168mph in the 1 mile event. Atfirst they warned me, I ran again, and tried to back off slightly but was still clocked at over 175mph, so they disqualified me.

In the mile event, the only car that came close was a modified C6 Z06 was heads/cam,exhaust, intake and tune.

Having a legal place to do these things is quite great. Yeah, the desert heat will have adverse effects, especially on super/turbo charged cars.

We have open 200++ ( we are expecting a few 220-230 mph runs) we're doing in November... unfortunately, limited to about 10 cars. Why did they limit you to 168 mph, and why was that number picked? Length of the runway?

stmoritzer 10-02-2007 03:49 AM

impressive figures, too fast the SLR is
IMO the 911TT came close too, not only the Z06.
Thanks for the report

allanlambo 10-02-2007 01:50 PM

The Speed limit was set by insurance company. The 911Turbo that ran 170mph was heavily modified. The Z06 that ran 176 on its last run was allowed to run to the 186mph limit because he had a roll bar, 4pt safety harness etc.

In the event you could do all the performance mods you wanted, but if your car could exceed the 168mph you had to have roll bar and harness's.

For example the ZR! that ran 159.5 in the mile, had the following mods:
90 ZR-1 #0120 Red/Saddle
Watson Ceramic Coated Headers
Corsa System
Random Tech Cats
Corey Henderson Calibration
4.10s
Corey Henderson Polished and Ported Plenum and IHs
Bill Boudreau's C4 Beam Plates
Bill Boudreau modified B&M Ripper Shifter (shortest throws on the planet!)
Centerforce Clutch (weights removed)
C5 Z06 Brakes up front
Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Goodyear F1-GSD3s

As for the Lp640, inmo, it would run right around 170mph in the mile. Also, again, remember this event was at an 1875ft elevation going into a headwind.
