Bueller, the weekend has started and no topic yet.

After the tight and twisty monaco streets we come to the British GP at Silverstone where a lot of overtaking has taken place in the past. Great racetrack atmosphere.

The weather is warmer than expected with a lot of wind - its an ex-airforce runway in the middle of the boonies. This has caused a lot of spins and near misses as a couple of drivers took to the slip road.

Ferrari and Renault look strong though tomorrow would be a better test as the race drivers got very few laps in - less than 6 for most of them. On the onboards I was surprised to see the drivers lift into Stowe and drop a couple gears in the Maggots/Becketts section as the drivers had earlier mentioned they would be flat and do without brakes thru most of the first sector almost up to Club. Guess the conditions are too greasy for full on speeds. I think the times should fall drastically tomorrow as the track rubbers in.

The British race drivers weren't doing particularly well today.

Also Kimi had some issues with his car severely limiting his time on the track. I think he will have a new engine this week while both Michael and Alonso will have to use their Monaco lumps.

Friday practice times
Practice 1: http://www.formula1.com/race/result/758/9.html
Practise 2: http://www.formula1.com/race/result/758/10.html
Top 10 drivers - best time in both sessions:
1 38 Robert Kubica Sauber-BMW 1:21.082
2 35 Alexander Wurz Williams-Cosworth 1:21.946
3 36 Anthony Davidson Honda 1:22.003
4 2 Giancarlo Fisichella Renault 1:22.294
5 35 Alexander Wurz Williams-Cosworth 1:22.300
6 36 Anthony Davidson Honda 1:22.310
7 8 Jarno Trulli Toyota 1:22.437
8 6 Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:22.476
9 1 Fernando Alonso Renault 1:22.603
10 5 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1:22.825

Best Friday sector time:
SECTOR 1 1 38 Robert Kubica 25.681
SECTOR 2 1 38 Robert Kubica 35.118
SECTOR 3 1 38 Robert Kubica 20.283
... compared to last year's best Friday time:
SECTOR 1 1 35 Pedro de la Rosa 24.829
SECTOR 2 1 35 Pedro de la Rosa 33.696
SECTOR 3 1 38 Ricardo Zonta 19.899

I thought the V8s would be closer because of the softer tires this season but the superior grunt of V10 must be making up for it.

Amazing, McLaren 2nd pos!

PLEASE win McLaren!!!

sameerrao 06-10-2006 11:52 AM

Now this is the kind of Qualifying I like to see Michael, Kimi and Alonso all close to each other at the top. Hopefully there will be a good dogfight tomorrow!!!

Kimi has the fastest car in sectors 2 and 3 while Alonso owns sector 1.

Hopefully Kimi will win tomorrow - the poor lad deserves a good race after all the hardships he has faced. Great effort by Villeneuve. His season is coming alive.

The British hopefuls have been crushed - Button particularly so - he was eliminated in the first QLF round. This hasnt happened to a top driver unless they were balked badly by someone else. Coulthard did a lot better but is still entrenched in the midpack.

gangajas 06-11-2006 09:03 AM

Alonso has made a perfect race again.

saadie 06-11-2006 09:14 AM

Alonso wins again. This season is fast becoming boring.

For the very first time I slept while watching an F1 race.. I slept from lap 30 to lap 9 then woke up and not much happed Waited till the end heared the talk and shut down the screen and went for another small nap..

Missed most of it, but poor Button had a rotten time in quali, then his luck was well and trult up as his Honda V8 left him with a straight-4

He's not the best driver out there, but he was climbing through the positions, and maybe would have made it into the points. :bah:

Glorious weather uncharacteristically for GB in the last few days 8)

bmagni 06-11-2006 09:56 PM

clearly renault has the best car out there... and besides that they get lucky with the others getting DNFs or penalized or something
