.mkv or 720p files keep freezing/crashing VLC

Just got my Samsung LCD HDTV (yehey!) thus making me download HR HDTV and 720p video files (700-1100MB/episde). My problem now is that VLC keeps freezing/crashing whenever I try viewing them. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this problem?

Your computer? What's the video card and the processor you have there? It might just be you don't have enough horsepower. . .

P4-3.2GHz
2GB RAM
GeForce 6800 GT

VLC sometimes gives me problems too with x264-playback.
What I've discovered is that WMP plays those files without any problem whatsoever, using the CoreAVC-filter.

My PC:

P4-3.0GHz
2GB RAM
GeForce 7600GT

Plays fine in Windows Media player with the CCCP codec pack.

Oh but your in OSX right?

Nope, on Windows XP Pro SP2. So I have to use WMP + CCCP codec pack. *grumble* Would've wanted VLC to handle everything.

Life ain't easy man... :(

Yeah, it seems the MKV developers recommend that you use the CCCP as well.

Do any of your 720p mkv rips have a really low audio volume? The 2 Heroes rips I have are really quiet, making me boost up the volume on my mixer just to hear it at a regular volume.

I have exactly the same "problem" with my Heroes & Prison Break 720p episodes. Really don't know why the volume is so low...

Damn release groups need to get their shit together and encode audio properly with HD!

Svensson 03-12-2007 01:10 PM

Well you won't hear me complaining since it's for free

dutchmasterflex 03-12-2007 01:24 PM

Haha.. yeah but there was once a time those release groups took pride in providing the best stuff.

Could you say that again? The damn release groups set the volume too low.
