Has Imageshack's day come and gone?

Database is undergoing recovery, during this time your images will appear out of order, you images are not lost, just out of order. All newly uploaded images are recorded and will be sorted as soon as recovery is complete. Current estimated time of completion is - unknown, but we hope to get it done ASAP. We apologize for inconvenience.
This is the 3rd day of this message - think Imageshack wants to get out of the imagehost business now that Google is starting theirs?

this appears when you try to upload the image ??
cause the home page is normal for me

RC45 02-13-2006 11:44 PM

This is when you go to "My Images" - not uploading an image.

nthfinity 02-13-2006 11:46 PM

^^^
quite right...
however... i'm not sure if mine have suffered or not... if they have, then im 200 images short in 'my images'

but... its always been a temporary thing to me

RC45 02-14-2006 01:43 AM

^^^ Yep - they have stiffed me of quite a few pages...

Google has personal image accounts now?!?!

Vansquish 02-14-2006 02:58 AM

Well...I don't know about the rest of you, but the continuation of the "the images may be out of order etc..." message is that everything is supposed to be back to normal as of Feb. 13. As far as I can tell, that seems to be the case, all 507 images I've uploaded appear to be there.

had huge problems too yesterday. i could upload my stuff but not access the my images part, but all pics where there. right now i can access it again....

Imageshack lately is suffering from some serious speed issues for me, and impossible to load pics sometimes... today it is ok though. IMO they just grew too big for the hardware to deal with it.. so either they'll really upgrade like they seem to say, either it will be the end.. I saw many ppl turning toward imagevenue already.. but what about google system? never heard about it

Yeah, I'd be interested to hear more about the Google system too!

I wouldn't - Google will link your pics to your IP, your searches, your web visits and create a profile/trend/model of "you" and sell it to companies, governments and other "information users" - soon your job interviews and credit reports and insurance renewals will be based on your "Google habits"... :P

I would stay as far away from Googles "image hosting" as possible... You don't use GMail do you? ;)

TransAm 02-14-2006 10:45 AM

Well, thats the kind of stuff I am interested to hear about. I guess you dont get anything for nothing. Is the ultimate answer to privacy to have your own server and host everything yourself? Although, that doesnt solve your IP being tracked across sites you visit...

No, I don't use Gmail. Hotmail is probably no better nor my ISP email.

Suggestions Fawlty?

RC45 02-14-2006 10:53 AM

Well - GMail is rather worse than the other "free mail" services -as while the other "free mail" services are essentially free unsecure mail, GMail is a front end to a super-email-trend-search informaiton data-warehouse.

Ideas like creating email-link-trends to see who emails what to whom when about what topic are the things they are tryign to develop... the fact they already admit no email is "deleted" but rather goes into the "search source" along with the email adresses you and zillions of other people emailed to, with the content, type and amount of mail associated to it.

Scary.... huh? hehehe

And soon, Google will be ready to take over the world!
