Lamborghini News

KUALA LUMPUR March 5 - Experienced German driver Norman Simon has signed a one-year contract to become the new driver for the Malaysian-based Amprex Motorsports racing team.

The 27-year-old, who is the test driver for Lamborghini, partner's Amprex's main driver and team owner Genji Hashimoto in this season's Japan Grand Touring Championship (JGTC) which starts next month.

Hashimoto said as his former partner Charles Kwan of Hong Kong had decided to concentrate on the Porsche Carrera Asia Cup this year, he had to find a new driver.

"Norman has ample racing experience in Europe and the United States as he competed in the British Touring Car Championship, European Touring Car Championship, Formula 3000 and the American Le Mans Series.

"Furthermore was the test driver for Lamborghini last year and since we are also using the Lamborghini engine this season, he was the right choice," he told reporters after the JGTC press briefing here Friday.

Hashimoto said the contract with Simon would be for one year with an option for another.

However, Amprex, the sole Malaysian entry in the Japan GT races, will miss the first two races of the season in Okayama (April 3-4) and Miyagi (May 22-23).

"Our new Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT machine will only be ready by early May and we need some private testings in Europe before taking part in the Japan GT Malaysia round at the Sepang Circuit on June 18 and 19. That's why we had to to skip the first two races," he added.

Amprex will be competing for the first time in the higher class GT500 this season after having raced in the GT300 for the past two seasons in a BMW M3GT.

Meanwhile, Grand Touring Association (GT-A) project manager for the Pacific region, Masaki Tanzawa, said they will seriously focus on promoting the Japan GT races, starting this year.

"We will be creating news values for the Malaysian fans by sponsoring local reporters to cover the six events in Japan. With the coverage, we hope to draw the interest of the fans in JGTC races," he said.

The JGTC race in Malaysia was held twice in 2001 and 2002 but cancelled last year due to fears of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

The other rounds in Japan are Round Four in Hokkaido (July 17-1, Round Five in Tochigi (Sept 4-5), Round Six in Oita (Oct 30-31) and the final round in Suzuka (Nov 20-21).

The Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT racer will make its first appearance of 2004 when Reiter Engineering enter round two of the FIA GT series this coming weekend in Valencia with Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox undertaking driving duties.
Since its debut at the final round of the FIA GT series last year, where it took part in practice sessions before it was withdrawn, the R-GT has undergone substantial revisions, and the 'mark 2' version is believe to have posted highly competitive lap times during recent private test sessions.
The first car will be delivered to French team DAMS, who will be assisting the car's builder, Reiter Engineering, during the Spanish race. British pilot Oliver Gavin is to drive the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT and will share the driving with Dutchman Peter Kox.

This will not be the first time Gavin has driven a Lamborghini with Kox, the pair having raced a Diablo before for the Reiter Engineering team. Gavin's relationship with Reiter goes back many years, in fact back to his season in 1996 with Opel Team Joest in the ITC.

'Hans Reiter phoned me a couple of weeks ago and asked whether I could help them out. I cleared it with GM and said I would be delighted. Peter and I were due to race the Murcielago together at the end of last season but it didn't work out,' said Oliver Gavin.

'Valencia should suit the car and, whilst this is only really a test before they deliver customer cars, we'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm sure Peter and I will enjoy it. It will be nice to do something different and experience another championship.'

'Hans and his team have worked really hard on this project and it will be good to see it all come to fruition. I can't really compare the car with my normal racing for Corvette as the ALMS and FIA GT specifications are very different," concluded Gavin.

Dutch car magazine Autovisie had an excellent article a while ago on the developement of the R-GT. The writer (and the magazine) knows Peter Kox pretty well, so he could even drive a couple of laps during testing sessions. As far as I know it's the only time a journalist drove an R-GT.

My dad has the article, so the next time I visit my parents I could try and scan it at their place.

I tried scanning with my dad's scanner before, but each time I got ridiculously large files. even though I used 150 dpi and JPEG format. So I hope I can get it to work...

Krohn–Barbour Racing has confirmed its driver line-up for the two Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs it will race in the 2004 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). David Brabham and Peter Kox will pilot car number five whilst joint team owner Tracy Krohn will drive car number six with Scott Maxwell. Both Lamborghini race cars are due to make their debut in the GTS class at the Mid-Ohio round of the ALMS in June. Australian David Brabham is a veteran of the ALMS series and the Le Mans 24 Hours. After four years racing for Panoz Motorsport he drove for Team Bentley during 2003 at the Sebring 12 Hours and Le Mans 24 Hours and won the Daytona Prototype Class at the Rolex 24 Hours. Dutchman Peter Kox has competed extensively in both European touring car and international endurance series, most recently recording a GTS class win at the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours in a Ferrari 550 Maranello GTS and taking podium places in all three ALMS races entered in 2002. Kox also undertook testing during development of the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT on behalf of Reiter Engineering, which has developed and built the car in conjunction with Audi Sport. Kox previously drove a Lamborghini Diablo GTR for Reiter Engineering in the 2001 FIA GT Championship. Joint team owner and businessman Tracy Krohn will pilot the second car alongside professional driver Scott Maxwell. Tracy Krohn graduated from the Panoz Racing School to race in the Panoz GT Pro Series, taking second position overall in 2003. Maxwell’s career has spanned open wheel series as well as sports car and endurance racing. He won the LMP 675 class at the 2000 Le Mans 24 Hours as well as the 2002 Grand-Am Cup Series. “We’re extremely pleased to be campaigning this line-up of exceptional drivers, who will each contribute to bringing out the full potential of the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs,” said team owner Dick Barbour. “Each driver brings experience of driving in relevant series and taking podium positions. Each shares the philosophy of Krohn-Barbour Racing: we’re not here to make up the numbers and we go racing to win championships!” No stranger to winning himself, the 2004 inception of Krohn-Barbour Racing marks Dick Barbour’s return to team ownership, following his ALMS LMP 675 class championship title in 2001 and his ALMS GT class championship in 2000. Barbour drove to three victories himself in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1978, ’79 and ’80, and has also celebrated three Sebring 12 Hours wins as an owner and one as a driver. Krohn-Barbour Racing will run the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs from premises at Road Atlanta, Georgia, with factory support from Automobili Lamborghini. A team of Krohn-Barbour technicians will spend time at Reiter Engineering in Germany prior to the next ALMS race.

Lamborghini disembarks in China
http://www.autocorse.it/racingnews/a...queue/6045.jpg
"The Lamborghini brand is present in beyond twenty Countries, but soon it will be known also from new the rich ones of China: to june in fact the House of Sant' Agate, of property of the German Audios and guided from the president Werner Mischke participates for before the time to the Hall of Beijing.

In the occasion the name of the first official concessionaire Lamborghini in China will be rendered famous.

For Lamborghini confirmation therefore the trend positive that has seen the House to catch up just the record of sales in 2003, with the delivery of 1305 cars uniforms between "Murcilago" and "Gallardo", with a turnover of beyond 200 million euro"

a007apl 04-28-2004 11:17 AM

Regarding Lamborghini's future plans, information are rare. There a plenty of rumours but less certain facts. Relatively safe is that there are crank shafts of more powerful Gallardo V10 engines that do their rounds on the test rigs in Germany and Italy. Rates of over 600hp seem no problem and certain to come in a few years. This also raises the question what will happen with the Murcielago. Its current V12 generates 550hp but a 600hp Gallardo would force the Italians to upgrade the power of their biggest model as well. For that, the 1001hp Bugatti engine does not come into question, in contrast to specs of about 700hp.
On the other hand, all these measures on the engine side are going to come later. Before, we surly will see evolutions of current Lambo models. Roadsters for instance. Despite that designation, they will surly be cars in targa-style. Says, instead of a folding top, they will possess a detachable roof panel. And, also lightweight versions of both the Gallardo and the Murcielago are safe to come soon. Taking the image of the Italian Audi division into account, they are expected to become uncompromising radical sports cars, conceived to surpass any Stradale or GT3.
http://www.fast-zi-nation.de/04_artimages/lambo_02.jpg
Apart from the sports car sector, there too were rumours that said the Audi division plans an SUV. Easy thing because, they could fall back on either the Porsche Cayenne/ VW Touareg platform or, its Audi Pikes Peak/A7 modification or, Maserati's possibly A8-based aluminium off roader but, currently it doesn't seem that Audi intends to rival itself, Porsche or anyone else on this sector. However, Lambo considers a third model line but there are no decision concerning it so far. A four seater GT with the Murcielago V12 engine in the front is the most likely future Lamborghini whereas the second option, a smaller entry model - as we showed in 2001- doesn't appear probable.

19.03.2004 FINALLY IT'S OFFICIAL, ANDREA PICCINI & JEAN-DENIS DELETRAZ WILL DRIVE THE DAMS ENTERED LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO WHEN IT MAKES ITS FIA GT DEBUT AT DONINGTON PARK NEXT MONTH!!

It's finally official, Andrea Piccini and Jean-Denis Deletraz, will drive the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT with The DAMS team in FIA GT Championship.
The car will be delivered to the French team by Reiter Engineering the first week of June. This means that the debut is expected on June 27th in Donington.
Jean Denis Deletraz will be teaming up with Andrea Piccini. They competed together in 2002 with the Ferrari 550 Maranello and in 2003, for half a season, with Lister as well.
This strong and united couple, who had the 2002 title at the tip of their fingers, will once again be part of the FIA GT championship.
Andrea Piccini, “I’m very enthusiastic about this agreement. This will be an introductory season for us: we will have to break the car in and we will have to resolve all of the inevitable problems that will come up with such a “young” car. It will be hard work but exciting. I can’t wait to get on track in Donington and to make our debut with the Lamborghini Murcielago.”
Audi will be supporting the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT program with all of its technical knowledge and they will be at hand to update the car as fast as possible. The tyres haven't been chosen yet, but Audi's close collaboration with Michelin, leads speculation that the tyres used will be Michelins.
Once the car is delivered to DAMS, a two day shakedown will be scheduled on the Bugatti track in Le Mans.

Lamborghini FX: Crazy Cars Return among geymerov for sure it will be located numerous amateurs of the plainest racing arcades. Those, in which it is not necessary to break the head above the improvement of super-fast bolide, to consider the small of the details of the manner of its ride and entire to again and again attempt smoothly to enter into that treklyatyy turning - and all this so that although to one more position it will approach the five of leaders. But for the complete victory to you it will not enough be simply squeeze out the pedal of gas or jump on the springboards. In order to gain the top in the competitions, for geymeru it is necessary to resort to a number of the not entirely standard solutions: to strengthen its bolide by installations for the injection of nitrooxide, to obveshat' the housing of armor and to solder the smertoubiystvennye instruments. Only in this form we will be able to be assured whereas that in the first stage of races malicious vrazhiny will not crush us loved. According to the developers, to put the key of ignition into the the new Lamborghini we will be able already by this autumn.

09.06.2004 LAMBORGHINI HAVE CHOSEN THIS WEEK'S BEIJING MOTOR SHOW TO LAUNCH THEMSELVES INTO THE CHINESE MARKET, WITH THREE NEW DEALERS PLANNED BY THE END OF THE YEAR

In 2004, Automobili Lamborghini will achieve yet another goal in its market penetration strategy by making its debut on the important Chinese market, and will create important opportunities for development and further success of its trade mark.Founded in 1963, by Ferruccio Lamborghini, and owned by Audi since 1998, Automobili Lamborghini is based in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Bologna, Italy, and has over 700 employees. Lamborghini is currently producing two powerful supercars, the 6.2-litre V12 Murciélago and the 5.0-litre V10 Gallardo, both equipped with four-wheel drive, and both being shown at Auto China 2004.A third model, the Murciélago Roadster, was unveiled at the last Motor Show in Geneva and will be on sale at the end of 2004.The worldwide success achieved by the Murciélago and the Gallardo has had a strong impact in 2003 when Automobili Lamborghini reached an important sales record. In fact, last year, for the first time in its history, the House of the Bull delivered 1,305 cars all over the world and, in particular, 415 Murciélagos and a staggering 890 Gallardos, in its first year of marketing, with a turnover of €200 million, up from €93 million the previous year.Today, Lamborghini’s sales network lists 57 showrooms in over 20 countries worldwide, from Europe to the USA, to the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific area. Following the experience gained in other countries, Automobili Lamborghini has decided to create a distribution network in China as well, in order to act as a support for all its activities in the Chinese market. It is a structure that, as in Japan, will take advantage of the vast experience and prestige that the local Audi/Volkswagen importer has in the Chinese market.Naturally, the sales network will also be carefully nurtured in China, starting with the recent appointment of the first official dealer, Lamborghini Beijing, which will officially begin its activities at Auto China 2004 this week, and be followed by a further two during the course of the year in Shanghai and Guangzhou. The opening of the Beijing Motor Show was chosen by Automobili Lamborghini to mark the start of the commercialisation of its models on the important Chinese market. In 2004, Automobili Lamborghini counts on selling at least 20 Murciélago and Gallardo vehicles in China.

Now Gallardo Loses Its Roof

We brought you world exclusive news of one drop-top Lamborghini in issue 735, and now here's another scoop - the Gallardo is going topless.

An exclusive image in the current issue of Auto Express magazine shows how the car will look when it goes head-to-head with Ferrari's 360 Spider and Porsche's forthcoming 911 Carrera 4S cabrio. The aluminium roadster will use the hard-top's 500bhp 5.0-litre V10, making it one of the world's fastest convertibles. Expect a top speed in excess of 190mph and a 0-60mph time of around four seconds. Power will be fed though all four wheels, with a six-speed manual box as standard and optional paddle-shift sequential system.

The news came from Lamborghini chairman Werner Mischke, who let slip future product plans and revealed the Murciélago roadster will arrive next year - as we said in Issue 735 - followed by the Gallardo drop-top late in 2005. The car is in the early stages of development, and on-road testing has yet to begin. However, losing the roof will mean some re-engineering to retain the structural rigidity and fine handling balance.

A price of 120,000 Euros (£86,000) has been set for the hard-top Gallardo in left-hand drive European spec, but RHD cars will cost £100,000 in the UK. Expect the roadster to command a £10,000 premium. Bosses hope to sell 1,600 Gallardos a year by 2005, and the open-top will only take that higher. Chris Thorp

Gallardo Drop-top Ups Ante

A more extreme version of the yet-to-be-launched Lamborghini Gallardo drop-top is in development, Auto Express has learned.

Inspired by the Murciélago Roadster the project has yet to get the go-ahead from company bosses. However, insiders tell us it's been proposed in response to the race-bred F360 Stradale from Ferrari.

There's also news on the standard Gallardo convertible, pictures of which were first seen in issue 758. It's expected to cost £120,000 and, as with the coupé, will sport a 500bhp, V10 engine and six-speed, semi-automatic gearbox.

Lamborghini has also revealed plans to build a limited run of road-going versions of the Murciélago R-GT competition car unveiled at last autumn's Frankfurt Motor Show. Collectors will get the chance to buy the supercar, which will vary little from the carbon-bodied racer. Ferrari's Enzo had better watch out!

We've also learned the Murciélago Roadster will star in the next Batman movie. But it's a closely guarded secret whether the Italian supercar will be in Bruce Wayne's extensive garage, or be the wheels of choice for Gotham City's latest arch-criminal.

Actress Kelly Carlson finally gets it. FX's "Nip/Tuck" star got behind the wheel of $330,000 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster on Tuesday

and led a caravan of 50 Lamborghini luxury cars on a 300-mile cruise up the coast to Monterey.

It brought back memories of one of "Nip/Tuck's" most talked about episodes when plastic surgeon Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) is rewarded with a Lamborghini Murcielago after setting up a date between Carlson (Kimberly Henry) and another character.

"I've always thought about what it might be like to drive a Lamborghini so when I was invited to take part in this event I was excited, especially after last season when my character on `Nip/Tuck' was traded by her boyfriend for a Lamborghini. Now I know why," Carlson said.

"We thought it would be fun to invite her to test out the Murcielago Roadster," Lamborghini's North American chief Ehren Bragg said. "I've seen some pretty wild things done with our cars, but I don't think I've ever heard of trading a Lamborghini for a date.

"We thought she deserved a chance at a test drive."

The event was staged to celebrate the North American launch of Automobili Lamborghini's 2005 Murcielago Roadster, which will be publicly unveiled at Monterey's famed Concorso Italiano, a popular Italian car show.

The Lamborghini Roadster - a 580 horsepower V-12 with a top speed of 205 mph - arrives at dealerships this fall.

Taken from EVO Magazine

To capitalise on the presence of the Murciélago GT racer currently competing in the FIA GT championship (as a warm-up for Le Mans 2005), Lamborghini is to produce a special road-going version called the Murciélago R-GT. Just 25 are planned and they're expected to be launched at the end of 2005.

Prototypes are already being assessed at the factory. The most significant difference to the current production car is a change from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, in an effort to save as much weight as possible. The R-GT will use a revised V12 that's grown to 6.5 litres from the 6.2-litre unit in the current car. It will also come with ceramic brake discs as standard and it will be available only with Lambo's new E-Gear paddleshift transmission.

Power increases dramatically. Lamborghini insiders say this new version of the famous V12 is already producing in excess of 745bhp on the dyno but the company is planning to settle on a headline figure of around 650-680bhp for the finished production version of the engine.

One of the R-GT's goals is to beat arch rival Ferrari's performance figures for the Enzo; a 0-60mph time of less than 3.5sec is the current target. As well as the number crunching, Lamborghini wants the R-GT to engage the driver more than the rather aloof Enzo does. Expect a list price of around £230-240,000.

After these special 25 limited edition R-GT Murciélagos have been built, expect a revised version of the current road car, called either GT or SV. Regardless of what it's eventually called, the big news is that it will get the R-GT's ballsier engine, but not its rear-drive transmission. However, the existing four-wheel-drive system will be revised. Rather like the Diablo SV of the late '90s, shorter gearing could be an option, along with the ceramic brakes from the R-GT.

While all this is going on, Lamborghini will launch a Spyder version of the super-successful Gallardo. Unlike the clumsy canvas hood on the Murciélago, the Gallardo is expected to be launched with a fully automatic fabric roof that'll disappear under a tonneau between the cabin and engine cover when opened. And the car's vertical rear window will be electrically operated to act as a wind blocker when the roof's down.

For the 2006 model year (end of '05), Lamborghini will launch an SV version of the fixed-top Gallardo featuring a revised version of the V10, boasting at least 550bhp - it could be as high as 600bhp but the output will depend on the demands of the market and what rivals are doing in the run-up to the car's launch. This is intended to give a boost to coupe sales after the Spyder has been launched.

Meanwhile Lamborghini insiders have confirmed they're working on a possible sports off-roader, though probably nothing quite as extreme as the military-spec, V12-engined LM002 that terrorised sand dunes, high streets and petrol pumps in the late 1980s. If the SUV project progresses (and it's far from a certainty), it will probably share components with other SUVs being developed within the Volkswagen group, of which Lamborghini is a part, don't forget.

The company is also considering a V10-engined coupe along the lines of the four-seater Espada from the 1970s, designed to compete against the likes of the Ferrari 575.

Don't raise your hopes for either the SUV or the coupe - Lamborghini's engineers are so busy developing the core product lines that these tangential projects are very much in the background at the moment.

Competition is very hard !!! I wonder where the power outputs will go ??
I think they should concentrate on reducing the weight of the cars more than raising the power.

Ooo, this is going to be good! :D

I expected this, and I can't wait to see what the endresult will be.

->Gallardo Spyder/Roadster: Will probably be launched in the first quarter of 2006. Is planned to have a revised 5.2-litre version of the current Gallardo engine with between 550 and 600 hp. It should have a fully automatic fabric roof and an electric vertical rear window.

->Murciélago R-GT road-going version: Only 25 are planned and it is to be launched towards the end of 2005. A 6.5-litre version of the well-known Lamborghini V12 will give the car around 650-680 hp. It will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle with E-gear and ceramic brake discs. This car is expected to be a real comptetitor to the Ferrari Enzo, and a 0-100 km/h time of less than 3.5 seconds is targeted.

->Murciélago GT or SV: Can be expected around the same time as the 2005 R-GT and should have the same 6.5-litre V12. It will receive a revised four-wheel drive system and a mild facelift. Shorter gearing and ceramic brake disks could be some options for this version of the Murciélago.

->Espada II: A long four-wheel drive saloon with V10 power in the nose and four seats is on the drawing board and could see the light of day in a few years. A rear hatch is planned and should ensure that it won't steal sales from it's blood brothers.

->Espada II two-seat cabriolet: Could be spun off the Espada successor project. Both V12 and V10 engines could power this vehicle.

->LM00X: Lamborghini is working on a sports off-roader inspired by the LM002. It will possibly be prepared in three version: A four-wheel drive advanced Reef Runner, a four-wheel drive simpler Road Runner and a two-wheel drive lower Race Runner. All are planned to have two doors with scissor set-up functionality.
