FIRST JW COMPETETION: PRIZES TO BE WON !!!

I was planning on building a new computer system this Xmas when I have some time off...I have just seen the O-ACE set up and WOW !!!!! funny thing is its similar to what I had in mind...but its much much better....

I am hoping there are some keen hardware designers here who can design an even better looking system for me.

The budget you have to work with is between £5,000 and £7,000 and I will get some photos and dimensions of the room I have to set it up in tonight.

The priorities are some nice screens maybe a projector or plasma on the back wall as well as the flat screens...

Everything should be available for me to buy in the UK and the hardware should be the best available you can find while trying to stay within the budget. As well as posting links to the hardware required obviously anyone providing an actual plan of the setup stands a better chance of winning.

First the O-Ace system :

The prize for making something similar or better are :

1st prize :

Clarksons Shootout DVD &
Brundles Supercars DVD

2nd prize :

Either of the two DVD's above

They are both PAL versions that will work on all PC's (as far as I am aware) and I will do my best to provide NTSC conversions if required to do so.

Depending on the response I may run a poll to help decide which is the best system and also when the final result will be made.

Thanks

Jabba

Wireless Lan do you have ?

That might be help so you can use your notebook in every corner of your house , and its becoming a standard

Sounds like it'll be alot of fun. So, what you going to use the PC for? Gaming, video editing or just general use?

Yep I think that would be nice...I also have a P4 and and Athlon 2100 that I have now that could be networked to it hopefully.

Watch this space :)

Some more info please :

Do you want to be playing games ??
Do you require a storage backup solution ??

SFDMALEX 11-25-2003 12:14 PM

Ok. As far as I know Matrox cards are the only ones that support three monitors. I may be wrong. So you can get the Millenium 750 here http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPP-Graphi...ox_parhelia_lx

Watch this space for future aditions.

Damn you sound like Yoda....LOL...

I have a 10/100 LAN right now but wireless would be nice but as understand it its not as fast or reliable as cables....

My main requirements are SPEED, POWER and DISPLAYS....NO gaming....but lots of ENCODING (as you may have guessed).

I currently have a :

P4 2.2
1 gig of ram
Radeon 8500 DV
Pionear DVD writer
21 " Sony CRT
Total HD space just under 1 Terabyte

So this should give you an idea of what I am used to.

PATo355 11-25-2003 12:25 PM

Hahaha , you can get wifi with 84mb bandwith , that is very fast i think , enuf for you ?

Jabba 11-25-2003 12:31 PM

How often do you actually see 84 MB though ???...and yes I do shift quite a few gig around at once so the faster the better.

PATo355 11-25-2003 12:40 PM

So we need to build 3 different Pcs ?

Or just one and 3 screens ?

Jabba, check out these computers. These are what I think are some of the best desktops on the market. Customize them to your hearts desire.
