Radar Detector

Hey everyone! I know this topic has been posted before, but the most recent one I could find was sometime last year and since then I believe there have been two new worthy additions to the game of radar detection, the Escort 9500i and the BEL STi. I'm planning on getting a new radar detector soon, and I've been able to limit my choices down to the V1, STi, and 9500i. More specifically though, the V1 and 9500i.

Have any of you had experience with these? I've had experience with the V1 and it works pretty well, so I'm looking into more input on the STi and 9500i, but if you have something to say about the V1, by all means, say it. Thanks a lot! :D

All I have experience is with the V1, but when I was buying, I researched here as well:

V1 is still the best. Forgot the name of the one that was going to be better but it was never released so still V1 is king. They patented the arrows so no other can have them. Get V1!

I have a Valentine One radar and it's great, but unfortunately it doesn't intercept a police car only the radars and lasers of the police. :P

This morning, I went to carry my gilrfriend to the airport, but on my way of the return, a blue Chevy Impala undercover cop came to intercept me. I never saw this car from behind me and I said to myself WTF my V1 didn't show any threats at all. After, I hide my radar very quickly and when the cops said to me that I running 140Km/h in a 100Km/h zone, My first question to the police was to ask by which system he caught me ? He said only by visual speed evaluation. Thus, this subjective evaluation is very contestable in court.

But overall, since 4 years that I have the V1 I never had a speed ticket and it saved my ass hundred times here in Canada and in the States. :good:

Having owned both V1 and Escort, I went back to Escort.

The arrows are a gimmick after a week.

Having mulitple visual AND audio bogey counters far outweighs the "advantage" of an arrow.

The point of a radar detector is to "detect" a threat. You the human driver needs to decide what to do with your throttle pedal.

On the open road, the cop cna only be ahead of you or behind you - it is not rocket science.

If you get a signal, slow the fuck down and save yourself a ticket - period. If you see a fading signal, he/she is behind you - if you get blips then a cop is working with instant on up the road. If th eblips get mor frequent every over a 30s period you are getting closer.. again, slow the fuck down.

My Escort radars always detected signals way ahead of the V1.

My choice was simple. Sell the V1 and go back to Escort. But what would I know, I drive a Chevy.

so did he give u a ticket?

you can't speed here in Ontario anymore...huge signs on the highway now, 50+, car impounded, license suspended...+ its illegal to use a detector...

but V1 seems to be the preferred choice of most normal ppl :P

Most people I know use the escort system, and many have had both ;) what do you mean by normal people?

That said, I don't run any system, and I've never had a single speeding ticket. I drive responsibly

Magazine racer, magazine radar detector ;)

And exactly who do youthink has a LESS biased opinion?

Someone whom has owned both, bought with their own cash, or a magazine that gets PAID to advertize a product?

Personally I could give two flying fukcs who buys what product, so please be my guest and dowhat ever you want. :)

In fact, it is better that some people buy the V1, that will keep the cops busy pullying the "Arraow enhanced" V1 drivers, while the Escort drivers simply cruise on by. :)

Bizi Jones 10-21-2007 04:28 PM

all hail RC45...

so what you're saying is that your 'opinion' has more weight than a similar human (in fact numerous amounts of them who claim similar fact) who owns both and says that the V1 has worked while the Escort hasn't...

indeed the mag is prolly biased, but I don't see how your opinion is any less biased...u claimed its better, but where is the tangible proof...everyone has an opinion y should yours have anymore weight than the next person...

here's a mag that ran a series of tests, and shows how each one scored not based on opinion but on 'scientific evidence', maybe they were biased tests etc etc...but its more credible than 1 person's opinion...

I've said this before and I'll say it again.. Valentine sold his old technology to Escort.

I'm not saying that Escorts suck at all.. they are cheaper by a $100 and do just about the same. I got lucky and a friend gave me their old Valentine while he upgraded for the newer one. But I bought my Dad a Escort, and it never fails.

I do however like the "gimmick" of the arrows and bogie counter that the V1 has. That way you know whether its just a sign with radar, or cop next to one of those signs.

Skaala 10-21-2007 08:49 PM

I have the V1 and it works great, although police in norway are more and more changing over to lasers, and there's no detectors that give good protection against lasers.
