I also asked for a paper, lets wait and see.

But since someone told this info at M5board.com a few months ago and now someone else confirm it so its not impossible its true.

I also heard that BMW are saying 507 cause of ECU (or whatever its called) rules and to keep the car in reasonable price. More horsepowers would be forcing the car to have a higher price and more expensive insurance. Also 507 is kind of a holy number, some kind of celebrate to the old BMW 507.

But we have seen how capable M5 is up to 200km/h, fast as CL65 and almost fast as Gallardo, 911X50 and Viper. How can a car be as fast as cars that has lower weight than M5 or more powerful cars. Its a little bit suspicious if you ask me.

You never know what carcompaines are up to. Let's wait and see if more M5´s show the same.

Look at this link, this was posted more than a month ago. Here they also mention 525-530hp and now we see someone else mention it. Two different sources claiming 530hp

I can't wait to see some guy with serious money modifing it and getting 700 HP out of it.. That would be great.. The only thing that I really don't like about the M5 V10 engine is the sound. It's really really sounds like a diseal .. but other than that it's a great car.


And I really do belive that BMW underrated the M5 for insurance purpes and maybe they like the element of surprice.. :lol:

You mean at idle?? I cant hear the diesel when Im reeving the engine.

LOL, no I dont have one, sorry if it sounded like it. Im a Moderator over at M5board.com so I heard how the car sounds. Dont tell anyone ;) but I might drive a M6 later this year, still waiting for an answer though.

Where's the dyno chart picture to prove seriously his assertion ?

The E60 M5 is so fragile, I hope for his mechanics that it doesn't have these additional 25hp. :wink:

I think it is becoming a lot more common these days for car manufactures to under-rate the power ratings of their cars (usually just horsepower). It has several benefits...lower insurance for the owners, less attention from safety-nazis, and maybe most importantly...BMW can show off that their car as just that incredible that it can keep up with cars with better power to weigh ratios.

The third is speculation, but we've seen it for sure with the SRT-4 and Ford GT, and I'm guessing quite a few cars these days are underrated...

Also, this is a flywheel number correct? I'd like to see what it actually put down at the wheels. Hopefully we will see some proof of these numbers, because judging from the M5's performance they seem very likely.

^^according to the pictures it was a chassis dyno, so this should be the wheel hp. However this number should be taken very lightly, first no pictures of the actual dyno chart and second dyno's are notorious for giving skewed results. The same car under the same conditions can produce very different numbers depending on the dyno itself. I'd like to say this number is totally accurate but currently I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

Remember dyno's are only a general indicator not exact devices.

Quite a few of the manufacturers have been underrating for years. Hell gm underrated an obsorbenent number of cars to protect the corvettes image.

I dont know if I believe how over this one is, but my guess is bmw would give extra leeway to avoid embarassment. Im sure some people remember the embarassment mazda suffered when the rx8 ended up below hp numbers. They ended up giving free service type stuff to buyers.

I remember that first speculation set the M5 at 550bhp. Then BMW says just before it's release that it is set at 507bhp. So yeah, i could see it's power being slightly more.

@Just Me- The 507 was really the predecessor to the 7 series. In it's time it was the highest end car BMW was producing and really brought the attention that BMW was looking for for it's cars. They had made a name for themselves with their motorcycles and aircraft engines (which they were barred from producing after WW2)

The 7 series would later go on to save BMW from financial ruin and become their flagship car.

If you can find one, get it :wink:


@ Schwalbe- :bad-words: S motor?? Fragile???? HHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! I'll bet it outlasts all the AMG motors :wink: It'll handle 700hp easy :twisted:

As for Chassis Dynos being inaccurate; yes. You really have to do 3 or 4 runs and then average them out.

Each result is going to be different just given the way a piston ring shifts and seals or how much of the fuel mixture ignites (no engine is 100% effeicient and probably won't be for another 15-30 years at least). Even the clutch is going to effect the result depending on it's slip level. Granted readings are much more consistent than they were 10-20 years ago, especially since fuel injection has been introduced, but still, dynos are far from consistant.

I would love to believe that the M5 is shooting out 530hp, however it's going to take 7 or 8 different vids on different dynos to make a believer out of me.

There are now a dynosheet showing 530 HP (PS) More dyno sheets will follow.

Was more like the predecessor to the Z8.


Once again I think those test results should be taken lightly.. Indeed a very fast car but just maybe slightly biased in BM:s favor.. I have never read any test where the M5 is as fast as the CL65 from 0-200km/h
