y do they fit lamborghini diablos with only a 5 speed gearbox?
i mean most cars have 5 gears and sport cars have 6 ....

That's only true if the ratio is very tall. There are plenty of close ration sports 6 speeds with no over drive to speak of.

The real reason is the Diablo hails from a time when 5 speed transmissions were the norm and 6 speed manual transmissions were few and far between.

the last gear is for cruising ..... so that the engine dont rev too much at high speeds if u know what im talking about .... .
... diablo was made for performance sound and style ... not for cruising ..... soo .... it looks kewl sounds great and goes fast :P :mrgreen:

If it has a wide enough torque band on the 5.7 V12 why need the extra gear. The Diablo clutch is not the lightest in the world afterall

so im guessing noone knows the real real answer. we must find out.

Y'all might be shocked to know the 1989 Corvette was one of the first "regular mass produced" 6 speeds out there.. :P

That's the point - go back and see how few 6 speed cars were around then and now. ;)

Only thing I can think of is the Audi A6 2.5 TDi which was a 6-speed. Maybe not released til about 1992/93 though.

I dont think 964s had 6 speeds - 993s do, but again that is a 1993 car.

Yep - and just as 7 speeds will be the norm in 5 years, we only have a couple at the mo.

What he said. And the Diablo is not, how to put it, a..an agile sports car. Its more of a highway beast. So putting in the extra 6th means the whole box will have much shorter ratios and that will kill the spirit of the car.
