Chrysler ad misled?

There's a new Daimler Chrysler ad on US TV. A man questions whether or not Mercedes-Chrysler merger was a good idea. Then the new Daimler Chrysler Chair Dieter Zetsche comes into the shot and takes the guy for a drive. "He" does some fancy driving around various Chrysler group cars while saying that the merger grants Chrysler cars more safety, performance and quality. Then he walks out of the car with the whole "Any more qvestions? Auf wiedersehen" deal.

While this may sound innocuous, I am seriously disturbed by the fact that the Chrysler group boasts German-derived technology matter-of-factly. Is using foreign technology something to be proud of for an American manufacturer?

Well, I think the ads are funny.

As for your question, who cares? Tear apart a car and you'll find pieces from all over the world, same goes for the technology.

I don't think they really care if they're representing themselves as the pride of America or not, what they do care about is selling great cars and having happy customers, and it's smart to try and do whatever they can to do that. Most people associate European cars with refinement, class, and luxury, so if they can go into a Chrylser/Dodge dealer and have the fame of mind that they're getting something akin to a Mercedes, for 1/3rd the price, then all the better.
