Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes-Benz F700

Quote:

The Frankfurt Auto Show is still a month away, but that hasn't stopped the car companies from dropping previews and tip-offs of new concepts they have planned for the show. Mercedes-Benz will have one of the biggest presentations at the event, showcasing no less than 18 new models and concepts cars, and the underlying theme for the show will be its new green initiative.

One of the concepts it has planned will be a 'radical' proposal for a large luxury car labelled the F700. Though this doesn't sound very green, the concept will feature Mercedes' new 1.8L turbocharged DiesOtto engine. The tiny motor is said to deliver an amazing 238hp and 295ft-lb. of torque, while returning fuel consumption of around 39 mpg in a large S-class saloon.

Other cars planned for the show include the new C-Class estate, more Bluetec diesel cars and the automaker's new electric hybrid range.
^I'm really excited about the Frankfurt Auto Show! 18 models and concepts just for MB alone! I don't see the need to build another large luxury car with the S-Class. Basis for the baby Maybach (but I'm sure it won't get that 1.8L engine)?

anyone else a bit unhappy with the way the current trend in Diesel-bio-fuel and lets be green car industry is going, its like a switch has been thrown just as the Veyron was relesed and now even ferrari is Global warming scared?

From what I've heard it's some sort of diesel/petrol combination engine. Hence the name. Sounds strange.

It's a petrolenigine with 238 bhp and 400 Nm but with the fuel consumption of a Diesel engine.

mercedes says its a: “Gasoline engine with diesel genes”.

The new thing about this engine is the selfignition of the petrol (just like a diesel) at low revs.

This thing doesn't look good at all for a luxury car, and the interior is just bad.

More importantly is The 295lb/ft of torque. cool but could be ever more efficient in another, lighter car then the S-Class.
