Well your right about Niki Lauda but it is more complicated than that. Over the years the length of the NS has changed. Niki set the time of 6:58.6 when the track was 22.835 km verses today’s 20.832 km track. When comparing different track lengths from different eras it is easiest to compare average lap speeds. Niki averaged 196.38 km/hr. As far as I know the fastest time was set in 1983 by Stefan Bellof in a Gruppe C Porsche 956 with an average speed of 202 km/hr.

The CGT time of 7:28 corresponds to an average speed of 167.4 km/hr. Your right that is extremely fast especially considering it is a street car. However, a 917 averaged 182.11 km/hr on the 22.835 track in 1973 and a 935 did it in 179.76 km/hr in 1979.
