That was the problem with the 2F2F cars . . . they were nothing more than body kits and paint. I'm not speculating either. They were quite literally dressed up for their parts in the movie (usually as background cars) and were likely more authentic because of this utter lack of concern for performance.

You're right, but don't forget Eddie Paul 's crew painted all those cars. The Mustang crew bolted on prepainted parts.
