Default Intel Core 2 Duo - my results - UPDATED 10/08/2006

So today I got my first conroe , I say first because I have a retail e6700 on order but that could be a while getting here, and in a moment of madness I bought an OEM e6300 to test while I wait

e6300 'allendale' are the baby version of conroe cpu, and as such only have 2mb cache compared to the 4mb cache of the faster versions

Test Setup
e6300 core 2 duo (1.86ghz default)
asus p5w dh deluxe motherboard
2x 1gb gskill 6400 'hz' series
radeon x1900xt
2x 150gb WD raptors in raid 0
1x 250gb WD sata2 drive
FSP 700W PSU

all cooled by swiftech apex ultra watercooling kit with MCW55 VGA waterblock added to system, and 1 120mm fan in the front of the case

Results
I managed to get 2.8ghz ( 7 x 400fsb) with very low volts, but sadly it seems the motherboard is pretty shit and no matter what I can not get stable above 400fsb even though the cpu has more to give

superpi 1m

superpi 4m

superpi 8m

superpi 32m Comparison
to finish off 2x 32m superpi run at the same time, and compared with same test run on AMD Opteron170 also at 2.8ghz(pretty much the same as X2 series but 2 x 1mb cache)

3d mark 01
run with small overclock on the radeon to match x1900xtx speeds

3d mark 06
with the conroe again using x1900xt @ xtx speeds

and with AMD Opteron170 @ 2.8ghz but different gfx card, just to compare the cpu score

video editing
I tested with 640x480 avi file, and had 100fps average recompressing it using divx6.1 on default settings!

Impressions
all hail the king! conroe rocks my box and I cant wait to get that e6700 and hopefully get a nice 4ghz or close to. For those on a budget e6300 is a killer choice - it thrashes any system I had previously quite easily
