Default CTS V Plus

this was seen going around Nurburgring recently, and is roumored to have a 6.0 Liter V8 pushing 475-500 Hp!

seems like possible early test work with a vette engine, and possibly the CTS V to take on the new M5....
EDIT: a wee bit more info on the hood scoop, and a few more spyshots

The vehicle show here is actually an older CTS-V mule. The higher-performance CTS-V Plus uses a larger-displacement pushrod small-block engine, so the hood hump should disappear in production.

on a side note, i wouldnt doubt this gets sub 8 minute lap times

not that hard to go from a 5.7 liter to a 6 liter if you think about it.

Why not?

The engine does not gain weight as it gains displacement - just power....

Yeah I know, but don't see that a lot in this configuration.

Anyway, it looks good(exterior that is), and the price is very tempting.

The LS2 engine that is in the new C6 'Vette is already a 6.0 liter, it just seems natural that the engineers are planning for future versions of the CTS V. Sounds good! That stupid hood scoop may be just a diversion, but what if they needed the extra clearance? The LS2 is a low profile design like the previous Corvette engine, so it generally would not need the extra clearance. Unless they are toying with an Eaton type supercharger or maybe 4 valve heads.

I love this badass CTS-V. I really like the big fenders and the rear spoilers on it.

I wonder if nthfinity you possess a little more information about this car ? I will like you confirm me, if the engine on this CTS-V plus it's the LS2 6.0L SFI or the new LS7 6.4L SFI ? These two motors according to GM are + 500HP.

It's true, RC45 you have reason. I have just verified, the LS2 is a motor of + 400HP. If it's really a V8 6.0L, this can be a motor that GM already sells currently. Thus, according to you RC45, which GM motors 6.0L is it ?

As if the 400-horsepower CTS-V Series isn't enough, we photographed General Motors' Performance Division engineers testing an even higher performance version.

Referred to as the CTS-V Series Plus by spectators at the Nürburgring, this CTS mule is said to be powered by a 6.0-liter V-8, and sources are estimating the horsepower to be in the 475-500 range. General Motors is aggressively testing this more powerful CTS, but production plans have not yet been confirmed.
unfortunately, thats as much info as i have regarding the car... but definately a M5 killer.

the hood scoop is remeniscant to the 6.6 Liter V8 in old 2nd Gen F bodies...

I would suspect it is one of the engines pegged for this and other performanc eplatforms in the next couple years.

That would mean a further development on for the LS6 - or a tweaked LS2 or maybe early trials of the LS7.

GM may hold to their standard operating procedure and let the LS2 spend a year or 2 in the new Vette before giving it up to other models.... and the same would hold true for the LS7 - but that doesn't mean they may not already be testing the 2006 and 2007 applications of these engines.

Thanks RC45 for these precisions. With these new motors soon available, the CTS-V is a serious competitor to the (RS6-M5-E55). His development on the "Ring" proves it too.
