Im making some investigations to start a new family bussines... heres a question, hope ya'll can help me!

its about shipping, you know many products are shipped by air or ships, so im investigating the shipping process and since the product that we will produce is very fragile we are interested in shipping trough refrigerated containers in wooden crates... after looking for prices of the crates i found many links of used crates? are those as in recyclable or a owner is selling them?

to send a 40' long container from guatemala to miami is around 4500usd$ so if i ship the crates the buyer keeps them? or i have to arrange the return of them, i rather like to buy new crates for each shippment, is that how is done?

As far as I know the company that is resonsible for shipping is also responsible for not braking what ever is inside the box.. I don't think it's worth it unless the item cost is in the very high figures and your customers are the high payer type then buy a new container for each customer. I really don't think most costumers will sell it. Most of them just throughout the container out unless you make it look attractive.. by the way how come it cost $4,500 for the container only..What are the dimensions..

Dont really understand what crates you have in mind.. we, in our family company, was shipping tonns of spare parts in wooden crates and customer kept them ofcourse, mostly throw them away or used for some stuff. You can buy ofcourse used ones cause the customers who received them want to get rid of them

or simply companys with used crates just collect them for pennys from those types of customers and then sell them for full price

Shipping them back will woth you a fortune - wasted money. Just put the shipping and packing costs into the invoice(bill).

Shipping and packing could be offered buy sellers as its for free but nothing is free, you pay it everytime

you as a seller of course have in the final cost of your product the cost of the crate. unless you have a special crate (manufacturing process, material, etc) you can ask for a return, but isn't that good, it's too expensive.

if you're going to ship frozen samples of dope (

), you must divide the total cost of shipping including the crate, and sum that quantity to each of your dope bags.
If you're more interested, find a book on costs (industrial engineering, BA, etc) and it will clear your mind

It's sounds to me like you need the services of a Commercial Estimator in order to ensure you cover all the bases in respect of your product costing

I manage relationships with wholesalers/Vendors and assure adequate inventory/equipment at distribution centers.
