Toyota Motor Corp. and Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday they have signed a licensing agreement allowing Ford to use Toyota's hybrid system control technology patents for its hybrid system.

correct me if i am wrong, but to my knowledge,
yamaha is the one that works with both and other manufactuers.
toyota doesnt own yamaha. .

yamaha helped toyota co develop a few cars such as the celica&mr2.
yamaha helped ford with the SHO taurus.

toyota engines have been badged in geo prisms, pontiac vibe, and a few others GM's

This is also not that intimate. Ford owns Mazda.. Ford is cooperating with Toyota. In fact Ford has a similar cooperation with gm over a auto transmission.

Largest shareholder yes - most powerful shareholder no - depends how shareholder voting goes - a 34% owner may be out voted by a combined 35% of other share holders.

In that scenario outright ownership would be the 50.1% shareholder

Very unlikely scenario. Especially when you consider that at least 10 % of share holders are prolly small stake(aka generally don't end up voting on anything but super important issues). This can be seen in the fact that ford is engine and chasis sharing with mazda.

Ford is considered to own mazda, volvo, land rover, aston martin, jag, Mercury and lincoln in terms of largest share.

Back to the original topic:

Ford plans to launch a hybrid version of its popular Escape sport utility vehicle (SUV) this summer, making it the world's first carmaker to introduce a hybrid SUV.

I thought Lexus 400h (Toyota) would be the first hybrid SUV on the market. It's the RX330 with a V6 + electrical motors and a more exclusive interior.

Are Ford going to beat them to it with their own control technology? That's strange...
