Hey guys. I recently watched the Jeremy Clarkson Heaven and Hell DVD and the segment with the C6 Corvette and TVR Sagaris was very interesting to me. One of Jeremey's critisisms of the new Vette was that it has a live axel. This means solid rear axle correct? I always thought that the Corvette had independant suspension since the C4 days. My friend sent me a picture of the C5 rear suspension and it looks like it has an independant suspension. Why would Chevy revert back to a solid axel?

Also, Jeremey also noted when introducing the Holden Monaro into the comparision that the new Manaro came equipped with a 6.0L V8 while the C6 only had a 5.7L V8. I was pretty sure that the new Vette got the 6.0L motor unless Europe got an underpowered version.

Jeremy makes things up all the time to make it sound better, or worse then it really is.

the Vette has had IRS since at least the C4 in 1984 (i think thats when it came out) it also has transverse leafe springs; a cheap way to corner really well.

the C6, and the 06 GTO/Monaro/SSR/etc. have the 6.0 liter LS2

GM did away with the 350ci (5.7L) V8 a couple years ago. i think it was one of the longest running engine series when it was killed.

And know that the 360ci LS2 is a direct development on from the 346ci LS1/LS6.

SO much so that is it is a direct replacment, and the parts are literally interchangable.

And JC is a pompous jackass... a gorilla with a Kevin Keegan hairdo..

The C3 uses a creative trailing arm shock/transverse leaf spring layout... with 2 sets of u-joints per axle.

Pretty much an IRS as far as I am concerned... right?

The Monaro uses the same engine as the Corvette. Both changed from the 5.7L a some time back.
