Not for the first time, BMW scored a major success at the International Engine of the Year Award. The five-litre V10 engine already available in the M5 (see launch report) and due in the M6 Coupé was the overall winner, and also scooped the awards for Best New Engine, Best Engine Over Four Litres and Best Performance Engine.

"Winning overall honours in the Engine of the Year awards is a huge achievement and one which rewards our engineers' capabilities and enthusiasm," said BMW spokesman Bernhard Gobmeier. "By making a product that has variable peak power outputs and low down torque combined with high revving characteristics, the M5 driver has at their disposal one of the most powerful yet flexible production engines in the world."

Two other BMW engines also scored class awards - the three-litre twin turbo diesel found in the 535d (which was second overall) and the M3's 3.2-litre petrol unit.

Despite the increasing competition, BMW continues to shine. From a total of 72 Engine Oscars awarded to date, BMW has won 20, the largest number of any of the world’s manufacturers, a clear endorsement of the company’s Ultimate Driving Machine positioning.

Take it easy I'm not trying to steal your wind. My point is that I think the "engine of..." take away some credibility from themselves by letting almost only BM engines win. Once again I don't mean that the engines aren't great.

man, BMW engines rule all apparently. I figured that honda might get more awards than they did. I am impressed that the same basic engine (the V10 from the M5/M6) won 3 awards. And that the M3 engine is still good enough to win an award! M3's RULE!!!

just so you know, last year 65 AMG got the award, "best performance engine" .
If they think the BMWw engines are the best of course they going to tell it, dont lie or they will lose credibility.

There is also another competition "Ward’s 10 Best Engines" where BMW also are doing very well. So its not only this competition.
