Spy shots: 2008 Subaru Impreza
|
Spy photographer Chris Doane for Brenda Priddy & Company caught a disguised 2008 Subaru WRX in testing this week in California. Previously, there have been several sightings of possible WRX test mules (in Legacy bodies). These pictures show an actual WRX prototype. The car is expected to take some inspiration from the Subaru B5 concept, though evidently not as much as one might expect. As for power, insiders are anticipating a big update to the 2.5-liter H4 turbo, with an output of around 330-horsepower. Priddy says the Impreza name could change for the 2008 model year.

Hard to tell what it will actually look like but looks like it will be on the ugly side as usual. But 330 HP..Wow!! And this is just the plain WRX? Will there be an STi version on top of this too??

That confirms the rumor about Subaru reworking the front-end.

Maybe the better question is can they get both the new WRX and STi to stay in the 3,800LBS range and end up way over 4,000?!?

I've never seen any Impreza hit 3800 lbs., thats around what an S4 weighs. The STI's curb weight is 3263 lbs. which is damn good for an AWD car.
Found some pics which i don't think are real, but still interesting.

The one in the magazine looks super slick....but I dobut they will be that creative (plus the head room gonna be horrible). The spy photo looks like it got reactive armour LOL! Can't really tell if the final product will be ugly or good looking tho.

Is 330hp for the WRX likely? seems a bit optimistic to me, STI by 2008 maybe but WRX?? That means that if they continue the STI version it will have to be about 360hp plus as standard??
Possibly, but I have my doubts as to the actual reality here
If it does turn out this way I guess we can expect at least one rival to up their game too.
Here's to the future of huuuuge HP and lots of speeeed!

Well you can get a Mustang with 300HP for 26k a GTO with 400HP for 33k. And I’m sure there are many other example of 300+ HP cars in the sub 30k range. So I don’t see 330 as being that unrealistic for the WRX.

As long as the Sti has better performance ...and the price is justified.
