2008 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible
A convertible version of Mercedes-Benz’s S-class luxury sedan might be on its way to production. Expected to debut as a concept vehicle at the Detroit show in January, the cabrio will eschew a retractable hardtop in place of a traditional clothtop. If it makes it into production, the S-class cabrio is likely a year away from showrooms. -- Car and Driver
Outrageous!! I'm really not sure what to think of this. Has Merc gone overboard with this idea? That retractable hardtop would have to be very very long to accomodate that massive car[img][/img]

That thing would weigh so much with that roof and all the support and what not that it would need.

Of course, it can be. This doesn't mean the information is a hoax.
Even so, I doubt such a car would make it into production. The roof mechanism would be a pain in the ass, also rear seat headroom would probably be compromised. The whole idea is retarded. Just another boring poser car.

love the idea of it, but...
don't know it could possibly happen,
it would be way to heavy as a hardtop (especially 4-door)..
then again i did hear it was going to be a soft-top,
and that it would be the biggest soft-top yet,
but time will tell.
MB should just make the hardtop from the new cl-class coming out in '07
(that i'm extremely anxious to see)
but i do love the idea.

4-door soft top, i can see this selling in hollywood but not not any place were there is weather.
still think is a stupid move for MB, the amount of money it cost to make/design isn't going to equal the sales IMO.
