A Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche Cayenne, Carrera, BMW and possibly 15 more high-end autos have been sentenced to death via steam roller by the President of the Phillipines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The cars had been smuggled into the country through a former US Naval base in Subic, and Pres. Arroyo is determined to make a spectacle of their destruction and discourage other would be smugglers from attempting to avoid import taxes. The event will be even broadcast live across the country, and will no doubt appear on You Tube soon after. We'll let you know when it does.

The Phillipines used to auction cars that were caught being smuggled into the country, but since the smugglers were usually the auction winners and got their cars back, President Arroyo will sacrifice sculpted sheetmetal, carbon fiber and low-profile rubber to make a point to her people.

The video will be incredibly hard to watch when it comes

But actually, come to think of it, is she stupid? I'm referring to this:

If someone buys a car the legal way, they'll be paying a certain amount of money on taxes. If the car is confiscated because it was brought in illegally, and then sold in an auction, I would bet the govt is going to make a lot more money on the car then they would have had they only gotten the 'tax' money on the vehicle.

I bet she doesn't realise that what they're going to do is much worse, not for the smuggles who quite simply won't change a thing, but for the govt who is going to lose all that money they could have made simply by selling the cars onwards at an auction.

The demolition has started! But it did not involve the expensive exotics including Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche apparently because of some legal process that has to take place before any action can be done. The demolition was done using giant tractor and the vehicles demolished were mostly confiscated items by the Customs from previous years. The only news cars crushed were 3 X5s and a Lincoln Navigator.

Nay. The auctions are conducted by customs themselves, with the smugglers' inside men sorting out everything. What happens is that the smugglers make the biggest bid, but only pay a very tiny amount in reality (because they line the auctioneer's and other customs people's pockets).

This really is the best way to solve the issue. Whoever paid the smugglers are now going to (or have already) throw a fit. And a smuggler who can't get his contraband past customs basically isn't a smuggler that can be paid.
