Oh how far it has fallen. Car and Driver Magazine August 2008 issue compares the Z06, Viper ACR, GT2 and the GT-R and they finish 4-1 in that order.

On the track the Viper finished first buy a wide margin followed by the GT2, GT-R and Z06 in a close pack.

The Porsche would have won if not for its price.

The C/D comparisons look at the total car not just how fast it is. The ZO6 was judged last on exterior styling losing to the GT-R, which was described as not pretty.

This is the same article where the GT-R ran the 1/4 mile in 12.6 @ 111 mph.... who the hell cross shops a GT2, and GT-R?? let alone an ACR and a GT-R.

Where does the M3 fit in to this?

Car and Driver's not the most reliable source, but I didn't think they'd be this inconsistent.

... There you go then. That's how Car and Driver does its performance comparisons.

Aren't C/D one of the mags that literally came in their pants and fawned over the look of the C6 Z06 3 years ago? LOL

Did their tastes change that much - or has Nissan slipped that much extra advertising to C/D?

Then again, isn't C/D owned by a French publisher - and isnt Nissan owned by French majority shareholders?

I'm generally disgusted by the auto rags turning green... and I don't think I have a preferred choice anymore.

My memory exactly. Now they are complaining about the mushy handling. They did admit it was the lightest of the 4 cars. Still not sure how a car that is a thousand pound heavier did so well against it.

They called it "hot". I didnt check if it came with air conditioning, but it was almost a full 5 seconds faster on the track. It was certainly the bad boy of the group, especially in the bad ass black color it came in.

Blue would not be my color for a ZO6.

i know there was alot of complaints about the stock c5 vette by them but they raved about the new c6 let alone the z06 a few years ago, that r-35 is nice on public roads but on tracks seem to be a little heavy its nice car i hope they sort out the warranty deal

I guess the point of this comparison was to test them as allout streetable track toys where as the last Car and Driver GT-R comparo was sort of a 2+2 oriented test. My next issue of C&D will come later this week. I guess i think of Road and Track and Car and Driver as being above Motor Trend. I'd go with Road and Track as my favorite, but I generally take issue with any and all of their comparos. The articles by Egan are pretty entertaining though. I like C&D's responses to the letters to the editors better than any of the others.

Conclusion? Car Craft for the win! Chevy High Performance isn't what is used to be. Hot Rod is nice and reliable. It's nice to read a magazine that's allowed to have a preference (towards American cars in HR's case.)

Wait, wait wait . . . the best mag that I've read lately, however, has been without a doubt Grass Roots Motorsports Magazine. The 40 dollar NASA membership is pretty much worth the subscription to the magazine. Here, the bias is towards performance, not second guessing what the average uninformed car buyer/commuter wants out of his Corrolla.

it goes over steve millen talking about the R35 in competiton in the C&D review.

also recognize the Z06 works better on wider open tracks with lots of staits and less turns. that kind of track shows the true potential of the z06. its a great car in a stait line. the ZR1 is even better with everything it does, but even so, the GT-R R35 is only the base model, its compaired to the Z06 not the ZR1... spec-v will defeat the ZR1 in performance, however the ZR1 will be much more comfortable and be better in other area's.

I believe the V-Spec is not out yet, and Nissan has yet to state the gas they use on the R35 lap record. As many have pointed out, the ZR-1 lap record is not even an all out lap. It would be interesting to see what kinda tire Nissan will fit on the V-Spec.
