I had a great converstation with a lot of very influential folks in the auto industry this evening; one had an old Jag E type.
His panel gaps were perfect, but the body was in poor condition; so he decided to restore it.
he heard 'horror' stories on how heaating panels, replacing panels, and such would kill the car's panel gap continuity, so he decided to do it right.
He had his car laser diagramed into a CAD program, which then translated it to CNC. He had his Jag completely re-bodied better then original, with the same high quality low panel gaps...
talk about a nose for detail, and need for perfection more then anything i've ever heard.
yeah, he was at one time in Ford's 'skunk works'
many many car designers, engineers, and various business owners all this evening
