Laptops: IMac or Dell?

I'm getting a new laptop and I cannot decide on what to get...an IMAC power book which I think feels more sturdy and looks so much better and is smaller than the dell, but the dell inspiron 8600 is cheaper. I dont know if anyone has a MAC here, but Ive also heard that they can have problems with being compatible with software and such. Anyways I just wanted to get some opinions...
