Maybe so, but when the new Passat looks so much like an Audi, you have to wonder what was the point...
If someone showed this pic to me a few months ago i would have said it was an Audi

Audi does have class, I admit. I think it's the whole "owned by Volkswagen" thing that demotes Audi a bit for me. that and thier incessant reliance on turbos
|
Audi got a 3yr/100k a 12 years warranty on rust as the main thing I guess....
I know what you mean with the VW thingy, but VW`s are good cars for what you pay and their money make the other cars under the umbrella better so I dont care.....
Audi are trying to seperate them self some from VW now, before they sold VW and Audi in the same dealers they will not do this anymore as far as I have heard.....You dont like their use of turbos this is one of the reasons I like them, but it seems like you will like them more now as they are moving away from turbos and are making more N/A engines....
|
The 1 year rust warranty actually scares me I can only think of one thing that would cause reason for a company to offer such a warranty, and that is that theres a bad problem with this.
Is the 3/100 all inclusive or limited?
sorry for all the questions, as i said i don't know much about how audi backs their cars.
I think competition will tighten up alot once Audi goes N/A. Turbos just mean more maintenence work needs to be done.
Audi's aren't all that bad, I did almost go through their training program

lol, oops, i read it wrong somehow i read it as 12 months
well the reason i would rather discuss Audi is because they are BMW's only remaining competitor in the sport/luxury class since Mecedes has effectivley sealed their own coffin, so i would like to focus a bit more on where Audi falls "topgeartom"
I don't think Audi should entirely distance themselves from turbos, as you said, some models should remain forced just for tradition.
I think it's alot more impressive to get 400HP NA though than it is to get 600 by force feeding an engine

You as a guy with the technikal know how, would know that building a well functioning FI engine are not easy and its far more than slapping a turbo on an engine and boom power appears....Its just as advanced as a N/A engine, butin addition it have to make the turbo and all the things that comes along with that to work in addition to being a well advanced engine.....
|
notice i didn't say that i didn't find it impressive. I just said i dont' find it AS impressive
With FI you need to have a lower compression ratio and also need to make damn sure your fuel mapping doesn't lean out at any point. With ignition mapping being key as well, you would really need to make sure that the spark advance is correct, otherwise if one cylinder begins to "ping" it can spell massive problems for the engine as the force of the combustion could easily crack a ring or shoot the cylider temps up high enough to melt a hole in the piston.
Now with NA these days comperssion ratios are almost back up to the point where they were in the 60's, which drives up combustion temps; Leaner mixtures, which also up temps and more powerful ignition systems. (guess what that does )
should pinging occur, chances are there is something wrong in the whole of the system which is going to cause temps to rise across the board and possibly ping multiple cylinders. Now running fuel and ignition maps is jsut as important here as it is in FI engines for the reason that it is easier for the engine to run out of air given the fact that it must pull its own air in.
Everyone has their own opinion on which is better and more impressive, and being an Audi driver i would expect your answer to be FI, just as i do an AMG fan
NA engines are getting just as light as FI engines. Although if you were to compare the weight of a FI V8 and a NA V8, i can only guess as to which is going to be lighter

true turbos are the best bang for your buck but the sound of a high compression, NA with 4-2-1 tuned headers with a 3 inch X-pipe into a set of glasspacks... that gets my heart racing everytime

don't deny it brembo, you know it's true If i wanted an immediate 35 horse all i gotta do is dump 500 bucks on a used T4 and a header. There is no way to push that out of raising compression (1,000+ for a decent domed piston set)
well..i take it back..turbos are the second best bang for the buck...Nitrous is 1st...but it brings up a whole another can of worms of problems..a pandora's box if you will

^^ 4 years ago i'd have been asking the same question. But after spending a year and a half working at an import shop....i've just learned that if it seems retarded, someone will do it
But yes i know what needs to be done to install a turbo. It isn't exactly a bolt on part I don't really know the sizes, so i just threw T4 out there since its a size i commonly hear :bah:

well, if they are stupid enough to use one forum post as their basis for turbocharging their Civic, then i say they deserve the damage they do to their car when they forget to run the vacuum line to the wastegate from the intake
After all, there is a section for mods and such, and i know adam24k posted a whole fat ass article on turbo basics and tuning
What i was refering to is just the ease of getting the parts 2nd hand, so i can see where the confusion would come from.

Did you guys ever see the 'flux capacitor' thread? It's on another forum but it worked its way around the internet quite a bit.
