Any tinkerers out there? Tesla Coils
http://www.angelfire.com.nyud.net:80...hz/trashy.html
So you still don't believe that people throw away tons of good stuff you can use to have some fun. To prove it to you, I've decided to make a Tesla Coil from only stuff I've found in the garbage. I will include a detailed list of all components used and where/what they came from.

great experiment. Even if you buy most of the material in a garage sale, you still wouldn't waste more than 10 bucks
I remember a geek-team in college built one of these and...OMG... it costed more than 50bucks... and didn't work

Tesla coils are cool and all...but I'd still rather build a proper rail gun...timing is a bit of a problem though...and the capacitors to power it...slightly beyond the range of my limited means...

well, when talking about poorly timed, barely functional rail guns...
a friend of mine built a couple of those in HS... in conjuntion with an electronics genius we went to school with... total idiot, but definate genius... a few interesting pieces of tech these guys created, and built.

the can-crushers are kind of fun too...and there' s a different device which creates a magnetic field separation so powerful that it can actually cut a can in two...that was a fun demo in freshman physics
