I have all the respect in the world for Dinan Cars since I used to have a Dinan M5....buuuut....WTF is he smoking? That car can be replicated with his own parts for well under $100k. Think about this:
First, what's the price of an '01 with 34k miles. Then add in retail price of parts and install and you're still under $100k. On top of that...that car has never seen an easy day in it's life...it was the test car AND the press car that everyone and their mother beat the shit out of....I'm embarassed to actually like Dinan.

$125K for a M3 -you got be joking - you can buy a really good condition 550 Maranello for that money. Or a 996 GT3 or GT2 or TT. Or even a 99 Modena.
Who gives a fig if it is Steve Dinan's car. If you buy it and sell it later then it will be your name on the car and the buyer is not going to give a shit about the first owner.
I will not pay one cent more for a celebrity owned car - it doesn't hold any appeal to me.

Forgot about that ... This car needs to be gently put to sleep - it has had a hard life

that car is not going to sell to an enthusiast to be driven. The whole point in selling his personal car is to find a collector or Dinan freak who must have everything ever related to Dinan.

no, he's just smart. Lexus is a dime a dozen around Redmond, Bellvue, and Seattle. Who is going to look at one and say "Hey, i'll bet that's Gates!"

He could have bought a new Lexus every oil change and still gone under the radar.
There was no reason for a billionaire to skimp on then $45,000 car

On another note...I wonder when he owned the car. My friend went to his high school reunion and Bill Gates drove a BMW 740i Protection. That was about 4 years ago...

I dunno about two...but everyone knows about the famous one that got stopped in customs...for about 15 years....but finally got federalized after being allowed in under a DOT exception carved out for specific vehicles thought to be "special" enough for historical purposes. But now, it's an easy $85k conversion:
