is there a program that can detect what codec and video file is????

G-spot can detect what codecs a video is using... it tells you a lot of info exept for .asf or .wmv because of some copyright stuff...

im looking to use it to find what audio codec because i ripped a "home video" i see the video but i am not getting any sound

I had similar problems, but a friend recomended I download DivX. It had all the codecs I ever needed to be a happy video viewer. I highly recommend it!

divx is just one single codec

download the Nimo codec pack then install that, the download something called ffdshow and install that in that order. You can play every video you ever could have, it has every codec including DivX, XviD etc...

It works, trust me... i have seen many movies off kazaa on these codecs

try geting AC3 filter

and play your movie with VLC player from videolan.org

if that doesnt work, then your problem is severe.

I use ACE mega codecs pack. when installing it use Agressive remover to remove all previous codecs from your system. After that I have not seen ANY video that would play incorrect. highly recoommended!

Alternatively, you can use ffdshow and set it as the default for all the support codec.
