Thermographics Technology Shows 911 C4 Better Handler

Here is a website that discusses characteristics of a good handling car. It uses thermo-imaging of the tires to demonstrate a 911 C4's superiority over a Dodge Viper.

There are also some interesting links to other handling characteristics.

St-anger thanks for the post of the 964 3.8RS. You rarely hear about this car while it maybe one of the fastest road going Porsches ever. Although it probably isn't a car you would want to drive on anything but a smooth road.

Didn't WR post a NS time of 7.42 with this car on racing slicks? This compares favorably to the Carrera GTs time of 7.40 at Sport Auto.

However, I am sure that WR time is faster in the Carrera GT than 7.40 and would be faster still on racing slicks.

´ll hopefully be able to post a scan tomorrow...
sorry wasn´t "allowed" to post this earlier..... mag came out today...

german car mag "Auto Bild" tested CGT and SLR at NS, unfortunately no precise lap times but the times in the article are confirmed by WR and Klaus Ludwig, so 7:28 for CGT and 7:40 for SLR...

so way better time for SLR than in SA supertest, for those who don´t know Klaus Ludwig, he´s the WR of MB.... 8)

7:28 for the CGT isn´t that bad ~ the time HvS claimed under dry conditions for his test, i´m sure WR can do even better, again, as i claimed months ago 7:21-7:25 should be possible

BUT HELL 7:28.....this is already so unbelievable fast, amazing...

so here´re some pics of that test, scan to follow asap....

test figures:

^^^^^^Still the SLR is more comfy, so its not that bad, could you imagine what would happen if it was stipprd down from the "unecessary" weight 8)

Here is a wesite that has a few short racing clips of early 70's era 911s. One clip includes the racing team of WR & Christian Geistdörfer. Also included is a gallery section that has some pictures of some 2.7 RS.

unfortunately no one seems to realize THAT lap time

even with a press car

here at EZW we know about that time for a week or so, and everyone´s been discussing, this was the main topic the whole week because it´s so fucking impressive, no production car, not factory prepared, WR said it´ll go even faster....... ...i´m missing the NS freaks here a bit, would be nice to have some NS approved ppl around here as well, sure i understand, most of you only know NS from the net or TV, but damm, believe me, this time is already sooooooo extremely good, i mean we expected it to clock a sub 30 but not at this stage under this specific circumstances...

absolutely unimaginable that it might clock a high sub 20 with special NS setup, but personally i don´t think that this is manageable...

7:28 guys......7:28.... 8)

So much for that 7:42 by the XJ220 eh st-anger I know what 7:28 means...it's pretty much unheard of for a roadcar, even a highly modified one. The Radical SR3 Turbo was a bit faster if memory serves...but try using that on a daily basis hehe. Amazing time....I can't wait to see if it'll go faster hehe.

yep, 7:19 for the SR3...

BUT, i´m afraid even i don´t know what such times are meaning, and i have rounded NS hundred of times...

one must drive such times, who if not WR deserves the title "driver of the millenium"... 8)

St-anger I'm confused who drives for Auto Bild? Like Sport Auto have they used the same driver for NS runs? At first read I thought that WR and Klaus Ludwig drove the cars but then you mention WR could drive it faster and that HvS had a dry lap time of 7:28. I thought HvS drove the super test and lapped the CGT at 7:40.

As magazine editorial quality goes how does Auto Bild compare? I have seen old NS times specifically for a 1987 911 were Auto Bild recorded a NS time of 9:26. I wasn't sure how to compare that time to times recorded by HvS in other cars as I wasn't sure of the skill of the drivers they use. If you could fill in some details that would help

I'm sure as hell no NS expert but 7:28 seems very impressive.
But again, I surely didn't expect the SLR to do so well.

It gets you thinking what it should be capable of when they stripped it down some 350kg.

And in this test the SLR's brakes even seem to be better then those of the CGT. At higher speeds the CGT still has the advantage of it's weight, but still, those SLR's brakes are mighty impressive.

…lol, seems like you´ve mixed it up a “bit”, but maybe it´s because of my bad english… ops:

for SA HvS does all the supertest driving, but I wouldn´t be surprised if they´ll invite WR for the second supertest this summer…
for AB WR did the driving with the CGT in 7:28 and KL in the SLR in 7:40, HvS clocked a (wet) 7:40 for SA months ago…
don´t know anything about older AB tests, it´s not my type of mag to be honest, sure they are kinda critical with everything and more or less neutral, but when they don´t invite some drivers like WR or KL….i don´t even take a look in it…only bla bla bla and not even close to SA…

Thanks st-anger for the clarification. It certainly wasn't your English which is very good . The thing that confused me was that I didn't realize that HvS 7:40 time was in the wet. I wish that I could read and speak German half as well as you do English. Then I could read these excellent German magazines like SA.

When did HvS run the dry lap time of 7:28 and has that time been published? It still shows 7:40 at track-challenge website.

By the way, an article that was posted in this section had an interview with WR were he indicated that they weren't going to post his lap times in the future because they felt it was creating a dangerous competition on the NS. Do you know anything about this?
