The SVT Cobra is a two door sports car, the M5 and E55 are 4 door sedans ... why are we comparing them ...
The E55 and M5 are faster than the Corvette z06, they are certainly faster than the Cobra SVT, because I know for a fact Ford is not exceeding 400bhp with that model.

uh oh, you mentioned faste than and corvette in the same sentance, you'll soon be feeling RC45's wrath

Take your pick between the Audi RS 6 and the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. Then pull alongside a BMW M3, M5, a Chevrolet Corvette, a Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, or even a Porsche 911 Carrera at a stoplight. The next thing you'll notice is that these other high-performance machines next to you are left behind, their drivers wondering how a 4-door family sedan can out-accelerate them from a standing start.
The truth is that the Audi and the Mercedes-Benz are both sleeper muscle cars disguised as people-movers. The RS 6 comes with a twin-turbocharged V-8 capable of delivering 450 bhp at 5700 rpm and 415 lb.-ft. of torque at 1950 rpm, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission propelling all four wheels. The driver and the passengers are not only treated to the Audi's addictive, extreme acceleration ability, but they are also being indulged in amenities befitting a luxury sedan.

wow, am i reading this correctly? is this article trying to say that an m5 would be left behind by the other germans? what! i know this may be referring to the e39; regardless i hate journalists making sweeping statements. i feel like posting all the performance stats for the porsche, two m cars and the vette, dusting off my argumentative hat and getting my yell on. oh whatever it's not worth it yet..

Did you guys actually read this? at no point do the mention the BMWs except for right there. And to pit the M3 in that mix is just bull. They're talking about ultra-400HP cars, not sub-400HP.
and even with the E39M5 being 400 even, they don't test it. Its not even a sweeping statement. Its a cheap shot!
the E39 runs a sub 14second quarter mile (since this is the bench mark these american mags seem to love) it would fit nicely in with this group.
I dare them to make these bold statements once the E60 hits the streets

That article was just a 0-100-0 test they did a while back. They chose the two fastest from each catagory and from the "super sedans" the E55 and RS6 are by far the fastest.
If you want their full comparison between the E55, RS6, E39 M5, and S-type R go here:

Not bad. impressive that the M5 didn't come in last despite being the only NA car in the group. Also the only manual transmission too.

Of course a car is not only about acceleration figures, I also have a test (Automobile), same thing RS6, E55, Jaguar S-Type R and E39 M5 and all things considered they said the M5 was still the champ even against those "new" rivals.
E60 M5 acceleration is a different story obviously

nah..the M5 had been out in the open for a long time and BMW doesn't like to change a whole lot of things in he middle of a series run. It was just a matter of time before it got knocked off its pedastal. But it;ll be back in new form next year so we aren't too worried about it

lol, firstly, why are you using road and track, that magazine is crap. Secondly, thats the old M5 which is old compared to the others in the group. Thirdly as has already been written, the ne M5 crushes them all in almost all departments

We´ll have to see what happens when Evo tests the M5 against the next RS6 in a couple of years, I think that will be it´s toughest test.

considering EVO's cost 10 bucks here in the US its the best we got. and we all know its an old article and we know the new M5 kicks ass, i was just pointing out that they had tested the old M5 and its competitors not just the E55 and RS6

you get what you pay for Im glad its an english mag, not trying to be big headed or anything, but i've yet to see a foreign mag that is as good as the british ones. They dont have the variety we do either, we have 4 or 5 good quality mags on top of a few more average ones then all the specialist ones - all of which are available in our most common newsagents - ye olde WH smiths
