Default E60 M5 vs. SL55 AMG Track test results

To those that they say that Mercedes are just for straight line speed, have a look at the link below. The SL55 AMG which is been around now for 3 years is faster around the Nuerburgring than the brand new E60 M5.

M5 and SL55 arent the same cars, compare it to E55 and see what happen
M6 and SL55 are competitors, both car lower center of gravity. I bet M6 is faster than SL55. And just so you know, sL65 is slower than both M5 and SL55 around Nordschleife.

and off topic, M3 CSL is faster than both CLK-DTM and SLR around Norsschleife.

WOW, M5 is faster than SL55 around Hockenheim and BMW 645Ci is only 0.3 sec slower than M5 which mean 645ci is faster than SL55 around Hockenheim. Beware of the mighty M6

Not really suprising given the amount of torque the SL55 AMG has, and given the two cars are of different types - ones a 4 seater saloon, the others a 2 seater roadtser, the M5 did amazingly well to come within that close.

If you look at the sepearate braking and handling, 0-200-0 and a lot of the circuit cornering speeds, the M5 comes out top

roadsters and coupés are good trackcars, Z8 does the Nordschleife in 8.17 min, not bad for a 400hp roadster.

recently there was an interview with BMW testdriver and he is driven M5 around Nordschleife in 8.08 min, he has driven the M6 6 sec (8.01min) faster than M5.

You are missing my point, what i wanted to say is that Mercedes AMG cars are not just the straight line speed beast and that they can perfom quite well around the track and even sometimes beat some really good track cars like the new M5. So don't point me out who is the real competitor for the sl55 AMG, i know its the new M6 that should be compare with the sl55 AMG and i'm looking forward to this comparison.

So... you mean to say that it's nice that Mercedes's AMG-powered, 2-seat, lower centre of gravity, supercharged roadster can be just as quick as BMW's luxury super sedan?

It got scrubbed by the bee-em by about 2 seconds on Hockenheim... and the bee-em's got seating for about 3 more people at the back, a real boot, and a higher centre of gravity... plus it's nearly half the price of the SL55.

If you ask me... the SL55 came out quite poorly. Imagine what the M6 will do to it, especially since the M division's test driver is already saying that the M6 is several seconds faster than the M5. The M6 will slaughter the SL mate.
