Default XBOX Reading DVD/CD Problem

apparently my xbox wont read the Games for the DVD layered games. any help? my warranty is already 3 years expired. i dont want to spend 80 dollars and send my xbox in. any ideas? i stumbled upon a site that taught you how to remove the drive and clean it or i can buy a new laser or a new drive altogether. i dont think my drive is broken just the laser needs to be cleaned. any other ideas?

Really helpful maybe but what Trigun said was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the thread title.

May be a long shot but have you tried turningthe Xbox upside-down? It s an old PS1 trick.
