I reckon it will sound good.
It only sounds like a drill because its at a near constant rpm for ages.
I'm willing to bet they'll be putting out around 900hp in 2 or 3 years time.... just about the same as V10's now.
The V10's put out about 300bhp per litre, almost certainly more. Convert that to 2.5 litres and thats already at least 750 bhp. Plus, the smaller the engine, generally the easier it is to squeeze more bhp per litre out of it.
And as graywolf said, they won't cut any costs at all.... developing a brand new, new format engine will cost so much more.
