It's an old crash test, the new F-150 is supposed to be a lot stronger than the old one.

In fact, the 2005 F150 got the "best pick" for its category. With help from Volvo, Ford seems to be doing fairly well in crash tests in recent years. Was watching a report on Minivan safety on TV earlier, the Ford freestar and its mercury clone were the only ones with better than marginal rating.

At the end of the day, you get what you paid for, it's almost safe (no pun intended) to say that there's a much higher chance for survival in a newer car

The "studies" also miss out on the fact that if the F150 was that dangerous it would be the most expensive car to insure.

The frontal crash into an immovable object is not what most people hit.. it will be hitting other cars in offset and side swipe scenarios.

Driving down the freeway I seldom see single vehicle accidents involving large concrete blocks..

Consider how much heavier the F150 is compared to the MINI, it's still possible that the F150 has a stronger frame. More weight = more energy to dissipate in a crash. Think about dropping a concrete block and say a golf ball from the same height. The concrete block is likely to shatter even thou it's clearly the stronger of the 2.

Yes, the 2001 F150 and all of the vehicles on its platform were poor, however, since 2004 there has been a completely new F150, new from the ground up. It has a significantly stiffer chassis and more robust safety cell, so it is not prone to deformation of the type seen in the 2001 test.
