Default F/A-18 SwissAirforce, Cougar, F-5, canons BIG update 17Okt!

Yesterday, there was the annual Swiss Airforce Display (kind of a airshow, but with real canon-shooting on various targets in the mountains)

The gunrange is located in the mountains, so a 2hours walk/climb is needed to get there (or a VIP flight with a SuperPuma helikopter )

Following participants of the Swiss Airforce were there, demonstrating their skills
F-5 Tiger fighter plane
F/A-18
Super Puma/Cougar helikopter
PatrouilleSuisse (F-5) !

incredible scenery with the snowmountains in the back, nice weather, a great day

VIDEO of F/A18 shooting and a 6planes fly-by
Today, did my first compilation video, from the canon-shooting demonstration of the F/A-18 planes
Listen to the sound of the bullets, the "whiiiuu" of the still rotating revolver-canon when the plane is infront of me ...

~10mb, 44sec, 640x480res

EDIT: as promisied, the update

the location Axalp close to Brienz/Meiringen in the centre of Switzerland

a long steep walk up

view back to platform 3, were above pic was taken

great view !

and a picture of the city Brienz, heavily damaged in last month flooding , one can still see the river which destroyed large parts of the village

target in the valley (lower end to the left, the orange markings) and on the rocks

more pictures of the Cougar/SuperPuma helicopter

VIDEO. Ejecting FLARES!, performance of the Cougar and "fleet approach"

Aluette III leaving (unique sound of this helicopter, well known in the Alps)

Augusta 109 of the Swiss Air Rescue , and Aluette III (rescue demo in pic3)

F-5 Tiger
gunshooting video compilation

less pics, since I did the video
impact pic, turning away, and Flares

the stars of the show, the famous Patrouille Suisse
VIDEO: http://rapidshare.de/files/6396656/A...sse-b.wmv.html

amazing  pics a friend of mine took while I was filming
crossing of the two solo pilots at 0.95mach!!

looping, mirror flight, tunnel-crossing

after the show, the VIP's flew back with..

and we walked/climbed down

ENJOY

More to come next week.....
Thanks stmoritzer for these great fighter planes pictures and for the awesome combat action video !

For more info about the F/A-18 Hornet cannon, this powerful gun is called "M61 Vulcan". Its a 6-barrel rotary cannon with 520 rounds of 20mm ammunition and is internally mounted in the nose. His action is hydraulically driven, 6 barreled, rotary action, air cooled, electrically fired weapon, with selectable rates of fire of either 4000 or 6000 rounds per minute. Normaly this cannon is use to air-to-air environment, because it has limited usefulness in a ground strafing role. As I can see and hear on your video this cannon is really impressing.

I can wait to see more pix of this event next week !
