I have not seen the video yet, but if you get close enough to the tailpipe, winds can approach 1000 mph but by then you have just burned up.

I'm not surprised, given that each of those engines puts out around 25 000 pounds of thrust. That vehicle couldn't be more than about 3000 I think.

Long ago (1966 - 1983) there was a dutch program called "wereld op wielen" which reviewed passengercars, made by Fred van der Vlugt. All cars received a standard treatment, which included a test to check how much the car was affected by crosswinds. Was always a spectacular sight because that part always started with the presenter and a manual windmeter in his hand trying to stand upright while measuring the force of the wind.
Only recently it was revealed that this test was always done on a military airbase on which three fighterplanes were used for the creation of that crosswind.
It also featured a test on how he car would start under cold conditions, which was done in a coldstore at minus 20 degrees centigrade, where the car stayed overnight before that particular test was run.

BTW: Fred van de Vlugt was also the founder of the dutch car magazine AutoVisie and the ' famous' european car of the year contest.

my dad was in the navy on an air craft carrier..someone had a mishap infront of the plane..they took the engine out shippid it home took him out then put the engine back in the plane....................

to put it into perspective, a dc10 (seen in the video) can weigh a couple hundred thousand kg, give or take, at a stand still. the jet engines must produce that amount in thrust in order to get the plane to move even slightly, that's a couple hundred thousand kg's of thrust. imagine how much power is produced to get a plane moving to 300 mph in order to take off, we're talking several hundred kilotons of thrust PER ENGINE. that's more than enough to blow down a small apartment building. that is why there are no other signs of obstruction behind a plane on a runway, and that is why aircraft carriers fit deflector sheilds (those ramp things that go up behind a plane just prior to take off) to deflect the force upward. without these sheilds, everything on the flight deck behind a jet would get blown right the fuck off

a jet engine is the 2nd most powerful thruster man produced .. the most powerful is the rocket engines 8)
