Some one paid $45K for it - so repairs might not be that much. *shrug*

definaetly not...
a late model C5 Z cost less then 30,000 nowdays... so that leaves 15k left over to make it as fast, or faster then the new Z... and no worries about spending money to fix it up....

seems utterly stupid to me

If there was any damage to the frame it could be quite costly since it's aluminum. Also the Corvette parts tend to be quite a bit more expensive than regular Chevy parts especially for the Z06. The Z uses a lot of magnesium and aluminum parts which could add on to the price as well as the fenders are carbon fiber ( I can't really tell if they are damaged) and replacements are probably in short supply since GM seems to be selling all the Z06's they can make.

Corvette parts are not much more expensive that other GM parts. And other than a few uniue Z06 parts, Corvette parts cost the same across all models.

What would you guess the fancy Z06 brake setup costs? That's rotors, calipers and pads?

$10,000? $7,000? How about $1300?? Thats $325 per corner... can you think of any other OEM high performance brake setup that is that affordable?

well...
they are selling many of the pre-prods with new engines and such

but according to real life (me)... at least once per week... perhaps more, Z's are being shipped to the proving grounds for testing... well, they could be MY07's but 3-4 at a time adds up
