Nikon Coolpix Cameras, thoughts?
I am going to go get a D80 tomorrow and the place I am buying it from has a deal where you get $50 back if you buy a Nikon Coolpix camera at the same time. My girlfriend needs a camera and is looking for a p+s so I figured this is good timing.
Does anyone have any experience with these cameras or have any suggestions on which model to get? The only thing she has really said that she is looking for is that the camera isn't too slow in taking pics.

i have a coolpix 7600 7.1 megs
well it takes some time autofocusing .. which pisses me off when the car im trying to capture flies away .. its great for normal girly pictures though
all in all .. the pic quality is pretty good ....
take a look at www.dpreview.com .. look for new coolpix cameras ...

Cool, thanks for the input. I have been looking around on dpreview for a little while so hopefully we can find something.
I feel your pain with taking pics of moving cars and thats why I have finally decided to step up and get the D80

LOL my bank account isn't going to like me for this but I have had it with P+S cameras. They are fine for everyday, non-moving pics but not for cars.

No idea about p+s cameras, but have fun with your D80 and show us some pics!

Nikon 0X
$50 really isn't that much of a discount IMO. It sounds nice ploy to get potential customers to clear even more of their inventory
I have no personal use with the Nikon Coolpix and I haven't heard anything bad about them, but I also haven't heard anything amazing about em.

Ya it isn't much especially since I will be plunking $1300+ on the D80 with accessories, but since she is going to be buying a camera anyway, I figured $50 is better than $0
We will see what else is out there though.

I was doing a little research for a P&S digi cam a month ago..I was leaning towards a Nikon Coolpix (brand loyalty at its finest) at first until I read and saw how great Canon's IXUS(Digital Elph) line up is. If I had the money to throw down on a small P&S I'd go with a Canon.
But if the price is right for the Coolpix before the $50 discount, I'm sure you and your girl will be happy with it either way.

Ya we did the same thing after looking at comparisons. She ended up buying a Sony Cybershot something or other cause it is really really fast. It was a little pricey but for a P+S it takes pics really freakin quick and it can do continuous photos. She isn't patient so "fast" was a necessity LOL
PS - I got my D80

Enjoy it and start shooting!

SWEET dude! Take some pics of your set-up with that p+s your girlfriend got. Any first impressions of the D80? Happy shooting! 8)

Ill take some set up pics tomorrow if I remember (got a few gin & tonics in me right now )
First impressions are that its a pretty intense camera. I have only had about 20 minutes or so to mess with it since I got it and I have a lot of learning to do . As Dutchmaster hinted, I will going on a big trip in a couple of days so I will definitely be putting the camera through the ringer and I will post a review of it when I get back

see my Le Mans topic for some pictures taken by a nikon coolpix L4
here's the link:
http://www.motorworld.net/forum/show...=836349#836349
for moving cars it's indeed not suited, but the lense quality is allright and its fast enough too (2 or 3 of those pics were made using digital zoom, so it's logial they suck )
[edit] somehow i missed ur post about already having bought a camera  but thats really cool, take some nice pics and post em
i wish i had the money to buy a really nice camera...
