May be if it was on cable you would have liked it better. If I remember Kelly McGillis is topless at one point. It was very tastefully done so maybe they can show that at school now. Probably not. (BTW lived in Pymble, Chatswood and Whale Beach for a while, went to school in Gordon)

Dirty Harry and Magnum Force... from the Blu-Ray 5 Disc Collectors set. I will be watching the remaing 3 over the rest of the week.
11/10 as always.
Watching 1080p remastered on the 60" is the closest I will get to seeing it in the theatre (unless someone ahs a special screening) and really sets off the period tough guy

Fred Claus on Blu-ray, don't ask why I ended up buying that, but to my surprise it's not that bad, paul giamatti in the fat suit really comes across as Santa and Vince Vaughn is the same as always, the dialog could have been a bit wittier but the addition of Kevin Spacey as a villain was brilliant, the guy makes it like a villain from a comic book, all maniacal and scheming, it is of course a movie your girl will like, I was rather surprised at a few spots, one comes to mind in particular, if you saw superman returns, you know about kevin spacey as Lex Luthor... just take a look closely at a certain scene near the end, it was a good thing they did with that scene but then again this is Paul Giamatti and Kevin Spacey we are talking about, 2 great actors that can pull something like that off, Vince... well he is just Vince, the picture was crisp, colors processed to look like Cellulose although the film was made on Digital media, the result is nice, on a projector you will most likely notice some shadowing but is not too much, this is one of the first movies encoded with full HD t-vf codec for sound so it sounds good, and you can stop worrying as the volume never gets a huge boost that makes you lower the sound
if you have small children, or someone you want to impress with your (in my case fake) sensitivity, you can watch this, although I'd skip it if you are an action junkie as there is none here
up on cue next: the earth VS the flying saucers/remastered/colored

Kingdom of Heaven - Blu Ray
I remembered the movie being ok... but the directors cut... going from a 6 to a 9. My main issue was the movie ended up being far too long. Great visuals @ 1080p. The new cut made the acting seem "that" much better for some reason. I'd recommend it!

Quantum of Solace - Recommended. Lots of action, good continuation of story. Although overall I think Casino Royale was a better movie.

Max Payne... I had to see it given I played the game back in the day.
I was impressed at how they attemped to keep some carry over / original to the character.
As far as a movie goes though.... Good if nothing else is on, and want to put your brain on the sofa for dark shoot em up.

the earth VS the flying saucers remastered/colorized
the movie was made in the 50s so the FX will look dated, however it is still to this day a science fiction gem, the acting carried this movie thru instead of "michaelbayesque" explosions and impossible aerial shots, the sound FX however have been redone and they no longer are as cheesy as before, there is more realism to gun shots now, but if you are a square guy like my brother you can have the old black and white, mono/22khz original which is also in this disc
the colors, oh the colors, I have no idea how they did this, but it makes a huge difference, you can distinguish all sorts of things now, according to the outtakes, the film was done in color, but the release was printed on black and white to save cash, part of the original dailies were burned in a fire so they were re edited and spliced with parts from the B/W and then by the magic of computers, color was added to the parts needing it, this is one great classic sci fi film and s now a lot more enjoyable than before, a must have for any film purist as this movie received quite a few nods in every regard at its release, the one thing is that it is over 60yrs old so the FX will look dated by today standards, however, the comical nature of seeing wobbling UFOs parading around DC and crashing into Lincoln's crotch at the monument is something that never gets old, (LOL)
up on cue next: 2001 a space oddysey (blu-ray)

Quantum of Solace: 8/10
I wasn't expecting much of the movie given the fact that most of the reviews I've read have been pretty scathing, and that a lot of my good friends had seen it and thought little of it. Quantum was a pleasant surprise for me though, the acting was pretty good, the action was excellent, I rather liked the DBS-chase and while there wasn't a whole hell of a lot of plot, it still held up reasonably well. That being said, Casino Royale was better overall, and for the next Bond movie, it'd help if Q-division had a bit more to do with the movie, and I really miss the original music...

I watched Death Race last night with some mates. We wanted to see a violent movie and that was the best we came up with. It is a film about a former race car driver (played by Jason Statham), who is framed for the murder of his wife by an enterprising prison chief (Joan Allen) so he can participate in her Death Races, streamed to a global audience from her prison. Most of the main characters end up dying in the film and there is just wanton, unnecessary and sometimes quite random violence interspersed with the killings. My only major gripe is that the cars seem to go really quickly and handle perfectly even with heavy armour and machine guns attached. One of the racers drives a Dodge Ram which seems to be able to perfectly keep up with the sports cars the others drive. Unrealistic, perhaps, but hardly a fatal flaw. 8/10
