I find it a little hard to believe that the extra 2mph takes a full 3-4 tenths of a second...maybe 1 or 2 tenths, if that.

Have to disagree with you there graywolf...one of the last projects my dad worked on at Ford/Mazda before he retired was the 6...it's built in the Flat Rock, Michigan plant where the Probe, Mazda MX-6 and 626 were built before it. I can't believe those performance claims either...turboed 280bhp and 280lb-ft ought to make it more than 1/10 of a second quicker than the 3.0 (0-62mph in 6.67 seconds). I'd expect high fives if not even quicker...but who knows with all the extra 4wd hardware.

You missed my correction of myself.

The 6 even as it is is a little more then just a family car.
I would consider it just behind the mini as the best FWD drivers car in stock form.

Can we say Torque Steer...it's a phenomenon I've not experienced in any 6, but so far as I've read, even with the LSD, the SRT-4 is prone to it, and the TL is as bad if not worse in that respect.

srt-4 isnt a handler.. faster.. but the 6 would beat it around the track on an average course... not to mention the srt-4 would break half way around .
Acura tl.. see the torque steer comments.

this engine is also set to appear in the upcoming MPS version of Mazda 3...although its output might be slightly decreased it will undoubtedly be a hell of a fast car for the money.
there are also rumours indicating this powerplant is likely to be used for the new Focus RS...in this case the power figure would start with 3.
